Without any warning, the 3-point on my 3830 just quit. FEL works fine, full power.
Fluid was about 1.5 qts low, nothing substantial, and now topped off. No lift power at all, and the linkage at the housing is clearly moving as the up-down lever is moved, but I still dis-assembled the connection just to verify, and rotate the actuator at the housing.

I'm stumped!

you lost the rear hydros, but your loader still works fine.so my guess is you have 2 seperate pumps on your tractor.does the pump make any growling noise when you hitt the lever to raise your 3pt up.if so your hydro pump is out.

Check the PB fitting coming out of your loader - the QC might've popped loose. The PB output from your loader is what powers the 3pt. If you have any rear remotes, then check the relief valves on those. Those are next in line between the loader and the 3pt - if a relief gets stuck open, the fluid will bypass to tank and won't reach the 3pt. With a stuck relief, however, you should still be able to get some 3pt movement with no load on it and the tractor revved up.

Thanks Jay and bull:
The 3830 only has one hydraulic pump, which adds to the puzzle as to the FEL working, but no 3-point.
No rear remotes on this tractor. Though I checked all the QC's for being tight, I will disconnect/re-connect just to make sure.
And when I mean there is no 3-point lift, I mean nothing/nada. Manually lifting the arms just results in me getting excercise!

Jay has it right though. for there to be nothing the cylinder has to be getting zero hyd pressure....... even a cylinder with a bad seal gets some pressure.... you have a hyd bypass in the system. keep looking, you will find it.

I know that I have bumped the TPH control knob and shut it off before so I would at least check that. If your FEL is working and the TPH is not that could cause it.

I have a 3830 and the service manual for it. Ive been studying the tph hydraulics recently in preparation for putting rear aux on this spring, these things I know. The tph feeds off the rear hydraulic block under the seat, the rear block is fed by a steel line from the front hydraulic block not from the FEL control, the front block also feeds the FEL valve. there is nothing between the front block and the rear block that would account for a pressure loss in that area so we have to assume that the problem lies in the rear block/position control valve unit. In the trouble shooting section under "Implement does not rise" (with no unusual noise) these are the probable causes
Control linkage improperly adjusted
Control linkage improperly assembled or damaged
Position control valve malfunctioning
Relief valve spring weakened or broken
Hydraulic piston O-ring, cylinder damaged
Sounds to me like you have ruled out 1 and 2.
I would be happy to scan and email the appropriate pages to you.

Not trying to suggest that you don't know, but did you check the on/off/flow control knob near the deck just front of the seat?

I was reasonably sure the control knob you mentioned is only to adjust the rate of drop/lowering, but checked it anyway...it was open/on.

Unfortunately for me, KBL may have it right...the position control valve malfunctioning.

Email sent to ya, KBL. Thanks for the offer.

Not trying to rile you with all you have going right now, but it also does function to completely shut the flow to the 3ph...at least it does on my L5030.

Just wanted to ensure that you had not missed it.
