L3830 w/ Bradco 509 vs. New L39

Oh no, I'm done. I was in much the same boat as you when the JD 110 came out. I'm glad though I did not get the JD 110. The L3830 suits my needs very well. I have almost 400 hours on mine now. I purchased it in May of 03. I still have a garage/guest house to build and a main house.

Yeah, I really like my 3830 and the guy from FL who's buying it lucky....no tax, no hours, perfect machine. It's a bit sad to see it in the garage knowing that it'll be gone soon, but it's not what I need. I have seemingly endless projects I can use a L39 on around this place.

Anybody want to take a stab at this.....Give me your best guess.

L39 tire specs:

Front 27 x 10.5-15R4
Rear 15-19.5 R4

Front: I believe the 15 is the wheel diameter and 10.5 is the tire width. 27 is probably the tire diameter?

Rear: 15 is the rear wheel diameter?..and 19.5 is the width?

Jim, those are the exact same tire specs as the older L-35, which are:

27X10.5-15 R4 (IND)
Rear 15-19.5 R4 (IND)

The L48 tire specs are:

10-16.5R4 (IND)
Rear 17.5L-24R4 (IND)


I would really like the larger tires from the L48 to be on the new L39 too, however it probably would not work properly with the BH stabilizers and the ECU for the computer would have to have its tire size derivative reprogrammed too.

Can you tell me exactly what those numbers represent with regards to wheel size, tread width, tire diameter etc. Those sizes don't mean much to me. Maybe it's because they are industrial sizes. They don't seem to correspond well to regular tractor tire sizes.

One thing I was thinking while re-reading these posts....Henro and Rat talked about tractor "versatility" post project(s). I agree with that completely. However, looking at the new L39 it seems that Kubota has done an excellent job of making a part-time CUT out of a TLB. The only complaint I see is the fact that the loader itself is not removable (quick attach bucket), which is partially based on strength and durablity..... a good thing. If you lose the loader bucket and the hoe....essentially it's a regular CUT (physically smaller than a L3830). I agree the loader arms add some weight and restrict movement in tight areas, but I like how Kubota has blended this machine a bit to be able to address multiple uses.

I agree Jim, I always liked the L35, the L39 even better from the picutres I have seen. The mechanic at the shop who is very sharp, was also pretty anxious to get the 5 they ordered. He even showed me the full shop manual pointing out this and that. All the running gear is time proven and the hoe/loader have basically been improved. I think your going to like it.

Jim, I am not quite certain of those tire sizes as I've checked the Goodyear, Michelin, and Firestone IND tires and none of them match those numbers, however looking at the pics of the new L-39 in action, there is plenty of room under the rear fender with those IND tires mounted.

I had mentioned to my saleman that I would rather have AG tires (since I will be working primarily on our 850 acre farm) than the INDs, but he said that was NOT an option.... Still, I am sure I can manage with the fluid filled INDs, just not as well as with AGs. I would prefer larger profile tires though.

Yeah, those industrial tires are made to run over nails all day. I think you'll find that the R4s will serve you well, as long as they don't get plugged with moist clay and turn into slicks!
