Rusty, I have a L3830 HST, R4's, TNT and loader. It's a terrific setup. I actually dropped down from a much larger but far less manuverable L48. I have found the L3830 to be a perfect fit for me. I tried the L5030, the L4630 and the L3130. Had decided the L3130 would have been fine but two dealers said I might be a little disappointed with the power of the L3130 after having had a L48. I think the L3130 would have been fine as well. The L3830 is a smooth working tractor. Besides, I don't need no stinkin cab like some of those spoiled old farts with L5030's. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Rat....

But Daryl is an old Fart, he told me so. Besides, he could never catch me, my L3830 is much to nimble especially with me at the control. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hey Rat,

Did you get your tires loaded? We did, though we are also planning on getting front weights soon. The one main road that goes from on top of the bluff to the bottoms is fairly steep (1000' feet long, averages a good 20 degree grade with a part of it being as extreme as 35 degrees) - which cause the Kubota get light in the front end when going up it with a load on the back (like the 6' Brush Hog, we havn't hauled wood with it, yet).

One thing I will say about that road, it's really neat to watch the farmers move those fully loaded grain bins up it in winter! Lets just say they now use a large agriculture tractor running duals instead of an old grain truck... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Rusty, I have not loaded the tires and see no need for it. My tractor does very well without more ballast. I typically run out of power before traction depending on soil conditions. I recommend trying your L3830 without ballast first. If you need to add it, it's quite simple to do yourself. Plus, you get the advantage of knowing what it is like without ballast. If I was using only 2WD, I would probably ballast them. Daryl, your unballasted aren't you?

I made a set of weight brackets for my rears and put on olympic weight disks. The only reason I did it was for the MoCo. Its pretty heavy and a couple of our hayfields are hilly. I didn't want to spin the rears and destroy the hay plants. If you search "rear wheel weights" you will find my post as well as the post that Mike Pa., did on the set I made for his Boomer.

I hardly ever run the tractor in 4 w.d. Most of the time it's in 2 w.d. The MoCo has a toungue weight of about 1200 pounds. I have never felt the need for suitcase weights on the front and when I farm with the 5030 I always have the loader off.
