Two kids over near Trinity County were doing donuts in a field and their truck had been 'lifted' so much that it turned over when making the sharp turns at high speed and the driver was ejected and killed. That kind of stuff is dangerous.

When I was young we lived on a well used highway, and had a curve just down from the house, our fence was run thru on average of 2 to 3 times per year. it was a very common occurance, we just kept t post's and wire on hand at all times to repair it. Hated the late night ones. because we had angus cattle, and they are kinda black, and when they get out into the road because some drunk has run thru the fence they are hard for people to see. The vast majority of the fence abusers left it they were able, without coming to the house, just drive off in a hurry. 1 or 2 racked up their cars pretty bad and had to "report in" and they got to meet the Missouri State Highway Patrol also. The most interesting one was in the daytime, when we heard the crying tires, and a 67 mustang slid sideways into the yard, rolled the bead on 2 of the tires, and came to a dusty stop. Out popped a very cute gal of about 24 or so. She started begging us to not call the Highway Patrol, My brother and I decided to "cut her some slack" so we called a wrecker service to help her out while we chatted with her. She was a newly minted school teacher from Kansas. (we did not see the dog or the slippers:laughing and she was crying a bit when she first got there, but we did all we could to console her:thumbsup:. A Highway Patrolman did go by while she was setting crosswise in the yard, but he kept on going. The wrecker company got her back on the road, and we said our goodby's. She sure was pretty:laughing:

But I agree with the sentiment.

After we bought our land I put up a cable across our private road with flagging all over it in a feeble effort to keep people out. You could step right over the cable. :laughing: The cable was held up with some very cheap, thin metal posts that were in the woods.

I showed up one day and the cable was not right. I had to un hooked the cable, no lock. I said it was a feeble attempt. The posts had been bent up pretty good. There was a few bits of plastic here and there from the front of a car.

Best I could tell they wanted to go "park" up on our road for some privacy late at night. The figured the cable was low enough that they could slowly drive over it. So they tried. Looks like they left $500, give or take, from the front end of the car.

Yea, I'm sorry about that. :ashamed: I was in your area for a State game, and I got a bit tipsy. And it was $838 if that makes you feel any better.

what gets me the most is I have been driving on a cuntry road.. and see a guy ahead of me run off the road, up the ditch, plow thru a fence.. back out and leave... and LEAVE the fence down with a pasture of animals there.

I myself have stopped to at least prop the fence up. but then I own animals and I know what it's like coming home from work and seeing your cows meet you down the road!

have also stopped at the scene of an accident involving animal trailers.. cows and horses out. some police had showed up and actually were taking position behind their cars and getting their shotguns out!!!! I ALWAYS carry extra lead ropes in my truck in case I have to go chase down an animal... myself and a couple other horse / cow owners all stopped at the accident and made a partial corall out of our trucks and went to hearding animals into place to keep them out of traffic. that's what bother me.. not so much the damage.. but the lack of responsibility on the part of someone that would leave a fence down.. look at the implications.. what if a horse or cow got out of a downed fence and shot across a road causing a car accident killing someone... that's what a person who runs thru a fence should be thinking.. not about the 45$ damage they did in a few feet of wire and post.. or board and post. .. etc.

I hear ya. I leave a couple t post, a wood post and the remnants of a 2 strand hi-ten wire roll tucked up in the bushes at the leading edge of my pasture.. that way when I do pass it and it is run down I at least got some emergency supplies to fix it.

It's been complete run thru / down 2x now recently.. though i have come by and seen it side swiped and bent up and loosey goosey but holding near 2-3 times per year. I always enjoy seeing the scraped paint onthe tposts and the parts of headlamp assemblies, molding and turn signal lmap piecs on the ground though. I know it's costing them more than it is me

And yes.. I do have reflective markers on my fence.. and it is not built flush tot he road. in some places it's 10-12' offset.. they have to try pretty hard to hit it. kinda sad...

I got up one morning, looked out at my horses in the front yard. OOPPS!! Not supposed to be there! Turned out a hunter had shot a deer in my back pasture, then cut my fence down to drive their 4x4 in to get the deer. Never mind the no tresspassing signs. I grew up hunting, but the average hunter is a slob or worse. The only thing they care about is whether they get a deer or not. There is good reason that no tresspassing and no hunting signs are everywhere.

Somebody jumped the ditch and knocked down the fence at my barn. There was a pretty good sized tree growing in the fence that probably kept them from running into the barn, too.

It's a totally straight stretch of road, too.

So we've got em, too.

And the $838 does make me feel better.

There is a section of road I drive to and from work. Mostly straight except for a couple places that have kinda sharp, sudden turns. Not bad turns in that you have to slow down at all but people miss the turns. There is one spot near a cluster of houses where I have seen at least three accidents. The people simply keep driving straight when the road goes left. One of the accidents I did not seen any skid marks and the car hit a tree. They had to cut the roof off to get the driver out. If that person lived they were very lucky since the posted speed is 55 mph and I am one of the few people that drive 55 on that road.

Last night we went to visit my wifey's family. We had the smart phone running the GPS mapping just so we could see the map and tell how many minutes we had left to get home. :laughing: Knowing the time left is important when answering the "Are we there yet" crowd in the back of the car.

The mapping function is nice at night since you can see what curves lie ahead. :thumbsup:

Now we have driven this road for years so we do know where the curves are in the road. There are a couple curves that are very sharp and you do have to slow down from the posted 55 mph. Last night the left seat driver was telling me, "That bad curve is up ahead." A few minutes later she would say, "You know that really bad curve is up here." This went out until we actually got TO the curve. Course with the GPS I could see when we were getting close to The Curve. :laughing::laughing::laughing:

When we did get to the curve we so flashing blue lights. Sure enough someone had driven off the road and ate a tree in the curve. The are a couple of houses in the curve and the car hit a tree in someone's front yard. I doubt it was the first or last time this will happen.

There was quite a bit of car parts all of the place so it did not look like the driver walked away but we could not tell. There was only one patrol car there and they were putting the car on a wrecker. My guess the ambulance had already left.

300, This is one thing i cannot stand. Ive hunted since i was a young teen with my father and brother and if there is one thing that i was always taught was you don't cut fence and you don't go onto someone else's property without knocking on the door first. Most of the time if you do go and talk to the owner they will often help you retrieve a deer if your polite about it and you haven't been hunting on their property.

On another note I live on a pretty popular shortcut from/to the interstate and I've been concerned since we moved into our house almost 2 years ago that I'm going to look out my front window to see a fatal crash. We live just far enough from the corner that people seem to think they can hammer it and just go. there is a rise just to the west of us and people have tried passing when they should not have. There was a young girl in daddies pickup last winter that missed the utility pole by 6 inches on one side and a 36 inch ash tree by less than a foot on the other side. she was very lucky she didn't kill herself, she was just going way too fast for the slick conditions.
