Well ....... we found his daddy :) To answer: No, I wouldn't whip out a sidearm and dust the idiot for yelling freeze. I'm sure I would have a hand on my sidearm while making a very quick determination of his intent. Point being, he could have gotten himself shot - and - if I'm on the jury - the shooter would walk.
Who's your daddy!! So...the shooter would walk when the only weapon, the only offense, was words? Utterances. Interesting. (and scary), What if he was turned away from you? Would you shot the unarmed kid in the back too for speaking those words?

Seriously, the same thought occurred to me. What if someone says, "Dang, I'm freezing!" with emphasis on the "freezing?" Then one of the well-regulated convenience store militia members who hasn't put new batteries in their hearing aid shoots them.

CCW does not equal judge, jury and executioner, skipping straight over some basic rights like due process.

The penalty for an inappropriate sense of humor is not summary execution--or I'd have been dead long ago.

If you want the power of instantaneous death or maiming that a gun affords, you should be held accountable for your judgement and the consequences. Nothing in the 2nd A. removes that burden.

I find it troublesome, but wholly predictable, that the proliferation of gun carrying results in thinking that 2nd A. Rights extend to somehow excusing deadly mistakes made while exercising those rights.

EXCELLENT POST and well said, Dave1949.....

The point is, yelling "Freeze" in a convenience store invites a reaction from other folks in the store and that reaction is not always predictable. Whether the reaction is justified or not is another question altogether and is immaterial to the guy yelling "Freeze" if he is graveyard dead, shot through and through or merely embarrassed by an azz chewing. It's small consolation that the shooter goes to jail if you're dead.

The Defense rests.

It was a good show. I was disappointed that most of it was a re-run. Parker, hard working but needs a lesson in how not to take his frustrations out on the people around him.

You guys don't really believe they normally act that way do you??

They are trapped and the longer those shows run the more TV drama is injected. The producers want something new to keep the viewers tuning in. Mining became secondary the moment the cameras were turned on. Good example is Deadliest Catch.

So what? That's still no excuse for mistaken, quick and deadly results that guns make so easy to happen.

Maybe the kid deserves a fat lip, a good lecture, banned from the store, walloped with a 2 liter Coke bottle, whatever. There is a difference in the end result.

If an unarmed woman walked up to the kid and chewed him out for being an idiot and gave him a slap upside the head for effect, she would have been arrested for child abuse and/or assault. We need to go back to the days when the community raised the children that lived there. Then these incidents would be dealt with at the appropriate level.

Umm, it's on TV, a reality show. It's got to be real right? :) not for a second. Parker, I'm not sure of. If he's acting, he should get an academy award. Throws a 5 year old tantrum very well.....

I do carry a firearm, but I don't expect I'd even try to protect a convenience store's money...that's not my problem and the the store was probably insured for such events.
Now, if the "assailant" was going to do more then rob the place, then a decision would have to be made.

The kid was pretty stupid in his actions...however, I haven't read any posts that stated the others in the store pulled any firearms....most of the posts on this thread appear to misrepresent the others' (in the store) reaction.

Roy, I've got to ask...is that a steer on your head or a moose?

Not one person said that a firearm was drawn or if there was even one present. But the nancys turned this thread into a gun hate one, as always.
