Flail Mower Let's talk flail mowers

   / Let's talk flail mowers #6,321
I am looking for something to primarily tackle 2-3 acres of yard with fence line, pond, and property edges occasionally. So far I have only come up with Caroni with the F rotor, JD 390, and Alamo SHD74. Caroni seems hard to come by and seems like the others may be a bit much for my machine.

The JD 390 is WAY too much for your machine,,
I put my 390 on my JD 4105 just to try it one day,,

The JD 4105 has a longer wheelbase, and is heavier than your Kubota,,

I only did a couple "test laps" with the 390, but, this pair was truly "the tail wagging the dog" !!

I only use the 390 on my IH 584, which weighs over double what your Kubota weighs,,,

I've gone over about everything thread and post imaginable here. What new equipment is available as an offset fine cut finish flail. Stuff with high count blades seems lacking in the current market. Hello dagO25,

Welcome to the forum. Please fill in the rest of your information so that we can help you more easily.

There are a lot of new and used finish flail mowers available for sale. You just have to decide how much
money you want to spend which will narrow it down to new or used.

It depends on how much you desire to spend for a finish cut flail mower. You can purchase a used
JD290 finish flail mower reasonably if you are willing to look for one on tractorhouse, auctiontime,
ironplanet and many other rags as well as calling around the JD dealers within 200-400 miles radius
and or send an inquiry to jd for a used 290 or 25A.

If you are in California you can contact Vrismo about a 6 foot minmax flail mower for your L3800 mule.
They occasionally have used rebuilt units for sale as well.

I intentionally mentioned new as I am trying to see what the new options are for fine cut flails. Most of the new options that I see offer 30 stations or less - more rough type. I am almost exclusively cutting shorter lawn type areas around the pond and fences - hence the necessity for offset. Let's for the sake of argument say that $7500 was acceptable, does that leave any equipment I haven't mentioned.

Hello dag025,

One of the fine cut offset Vrisimo mightmax models with side slicers(industial knives) specifically the C172 model(70 inch cut) will work very well for you. and your L3800 has the PTO power to run it. it has a dual hitch which allows it to be center mounted or repositioned for a 6 inch offset.

The Del Morino funny super model 132C from everything attachments with the side slicer knives is almost 52 inches wide in cutting width but it has the added advantage of being a side shifting boom mower that will move from the centerline of the tractor to the right at full extension to mow in a ditch and around a pond for you.

We are more than willing to help you with purchasing a flail mower you just have to narrow down the issues of sizing the flail mower for:

1. rear three point hitch lifting capacity
2. loaded rear tires for weight distribution and balance when mowing near ditches or pond banks.
3. money spent
4. new
5. used
6. center mounted
7. boom mounted hydraulic side shifting flail mower(verge mower)

We can help you, we do not want to get in your way.

I have both JD25A and JD390. I run the 25A on my JD4300 LCUT. The 25A will work ok with your 3800. I run the 390 on my 70hp 4WD AgcoAllis 5670.

The guys at Iowa Farm Equipment pretty much have me heavily considering the Puma 1800. Any reason to choose something else or any other branch that would fit me better?

Vrisimo and Del Morino for a smaller flail mower for your mule.

Those are the only two I would even consider for a 5+ foot cut.

We recently had one member that wanted to purchase a Peruzzo boom mounted flail
mower from them and he offered to pay them with a good check when they delivered
it to his home and they backed out of that arrangement the same day and he wanted to
come to their office and pay for it there and the owner threatened him if he even came
on their properties when the member tried to have a conversation with him about why
he backed out of the sale.

Look at the Vrisimo and the Del Morino before you have a bank draft made and mailed.

Its up to you, and its your money, but I would never do business with them after that
nor will I as they would not even return phone calls to me and others.

The concerns I had with both the Vrisimo and Del Morino was regards to the number of blades on these machine. The Del Marino only with 24 stations and the Vrisimo with 33. Maybe I am asking too much for a flail and should be looking at a rotary or just keep my zero turn. I am looking for a fine manicured lawn while still being able to cut around the fence and pond. My zero turn doesn't have suspension and has a much harder time in tall grass and rips the lawn even with my 3 point turns. I was hoping for a one and done machine. Maybe that is not possible with my configuration or the mowers available.

The Del Morino Funny 214C center mounted model has 32 mounting stations with 64 side slicer knives and has an 84.25 inch cutting width.
They rate the PTO horse power for all their center mounted flail mowers at 15-50 horsepower.

The Del Morino Funny Super 132C has a cut that is just short of 52 inches and it has an extended range of 69.6 inches in cutting width from the centerline position to the fully extended position to the right.

The Del Morino Funny Top 158C has a fully offset mount for a 158 centimeter cut/62 inch cut. It needs 12-24 horsepower at the PTO.

(The Vrisimo mightymax C172 model has 33 mounting stations with 66 side slicer knives with an 70 inch cutting width. The Vrisimo can be centered or offset behind the mule. It needs 24 horsepower at the PTO.)

Beat to **** looking 7' JD flail in Northern Colorado, $300. Not mine & it's pretty beatup looking. But it's cheap. I'm happy with the few years of semi-commercial use I got out of my Ford 917 flail a few years back & was about as beatup. Only seen 20ish flails total pass Craigslist here in Colorado in the past 4+ years, about half were crop cutters.

7' John Deere Chain Frailer - farm & garden - by owner - sale
