Every year on fathers day I load up the kids in it along with the fishing poles & a picnic lunch and go off to a friends pond for the day.........I open the back, turn the AM radio on to the Cleveland Indians baseball game, & fish with my kids ,( just like I did with MY Dad).........in the early '60's..........(Dad had a ford wagon tho' with the woodgrain sides...ugh !!) Always stop for an icecream cone on the way home too...............

There is a hybrid Silverado being introduced next year, I think.

There is a Ford SUV (Escape) hybrid out right now.

Chevy also has a new car based on the look of the '47 suburban called the HHR comming out later this year. Kind of neat looking if you're looking for something different and retro.

Re: Life\'s changes & tbn\'s influence -It\'s Rat\'s fault

me and the wife have 5 kids between us,her 2 boys,my 2 boys and our little girl,17,16,15,12,9,when they were younger and little smaller our family car was a 2001 dodge 2500 quad cab, made 2 or 3 trips to florida in it with the family, the closer they are the less trouble they can get in,the one year we went her brother and his family also went, they left a day or so before us in a chevy lumina,we was in the full size dodge diesel and it cost us less to drive to florida than it did the brother-in-law,thats when diesel was like $1.35 and gas was a little higher. but when I can take my full size truck and average around 20 mpg I'll stick with my truck.

we might have to keep an eye out on the hybrids, they talking on the news a few weeks ago about some states were wanting to charge for every mile that you drive because the states are going to lose tax money because the hybrids use less gas,so to make up the difference they want to charge for every mile,so you may not be saving anything at all when it's said and done,we try to save and they find another way to get our money!!!

That is so out of control it is obsurd. The govt should be encouraging more fuel effecient vehicles. I could go on & on, but we'd be venturing into a political discussion /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.

Isn't it though. You get the feeling that that is what they think their job is. It's analogous to cancer, or battery acid, or rust or....

Re: Life\'s changes & tbn\'s influence -It\'s Rat\'s fault

Why not look into the Jeep Liberty CRD? It will do 30mpg+ and still have enough power to do the speed limit up a rural highway hill even with a trailer. (Something the Escape Hybrid won't do.)

This Hybrid craze looks to be a bunch of hooey, IMHO, just like the hydrogen BS. Lets start producing some more good, efficient, little diesels.

Everybody seems to be getting in on this one so I will add my suggestion: Nissan or Toyota extended cab pickup with 4 cylinder engine. I have had 3 of the Nissans and they got good gas mileage and I still had at least some room in the bed for hauling stuff.

The 4 cylinders are a little weak on power but the V6's eat gas. For economy and commuting the 4 cylinder is a good choice.

Do you know this mileage from personal experience? That is a fantastic number and would perfectly fill the bill for what I want to get the wife. She currently has a camry that gets 33 and every time I think of getting her a new vehicle I hate the thought of losing that mileage. The liberty would have the bonus of keeping her out of my truck when she wants to go up into the mountains skiing /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"...on preliminary 2005 Liberty EPA estimates of 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. Jeep, Liberty, Selec-Trac and Trail Rated are trademarks of DaimlerChrysler Corporation. CRD engine will not be available in California, Massachusetts, Maine, New York or Vermont."

Sorry Hazmat, You are in the wrong state for the diesel Jeep.

Re: Life\'s changes & tbn\'s influence -It\'s Rat\'s fault

Yea, the insurance part is hard to swallow. Although, even at $1000.00 a year, that's less than 3 (on some BS averaging chart) new car payments! And you can drop that rental car rider you're probably carrying, and still have the pickemup.
So, with a 100.00/month fuel savings x 12 minus 1000.00 for insurance means you can get a new to you 200.00 car (tax, tags, title are extra) WOO HOO
What the heck, support the economy, buy something brand new. Are Hummers still eligible for the tax credit? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
