Lifting backhoe attachment using front loader

I don't always read many pages of posts, but doesn't anyone read the op comments before making suggestions?

Kudos to the OP for trying to plan things ahead of time. I do that too. Irritates the heck out of me, when guys just want to get there, and then have no resourses to do anything. It's sometimes crazy how much stuff I bring to a project like that.

Guys, I really appreciate all the helpful tips and suggestions. I have four 3,200 lbs straps and one 1,500 lbs, 2x 6ft 13,000lbs lifting slings. I hope this is sufficient as that’s all I got.
The backhoe will have the subframe on it and I think that will provide some additional stability. It’s a 3h Highway drive.
She (the owner) does have a front loader to lift the backhoe. Wednesday is the day.

Just to flesh out my previous answer this is precisely what I would do.

This isn't all that complicated. Use a 3 point attach system on the backhoe (chains, or straps it doesn't matter as long as they have a working load of 500 pounds a piece which even a 1" rachet strap has) and use a lifting device to lift it off the ground. If your lifting device does not have the height/stability required to lift over any side rails on the trailer that may or may not be present (we don't know that at this point) then simply back the trailer under the lifted load and reverse to unload. If worried about the trailer floor being damaged then bring a 2x4 and a 4x4 with a means to cut to lengths and a cordless screwdriver will screws to form a solid base for the hoe to sit on (bring a low profile jack just in case you need to jack up an area as well). Prior to tying down to trailer first ensure all hoe cylinders are closed and cinched closed for the trip.

I suspect the only issue you may have either loading or unloading from the side of the trailer is a reach issue for which you may have to load from the rear then slide it forward via a winch or come-a-long but removal of any folding ramps would be required. Why not just drive up the ramp you ask, a high bucket with weight going up a possibly steep ramp just seems a little sketchy to me.

If it were me I'd use three 2" axle straps around the lift points of the backhoe and then attach three 2" ratchet straps with snap hooks to the axle straps for easy alignment/balancing purposes. Wrap a chain with grab hooks around the bucket and attach the chain to all three ratchet straps via a shackle or just snap the ratchet straps individually to the chain.

That said, this could also easily be done with a 75' ski rope.

My point was somewhat generic. But it seemed clear he didn't have forks and was probably not going out to buy some for this job.

I’d be worried the loader at pickup sight wouldn’t lift it high enough to get on the trailer.

Can the stabilizers be extended down and chained together to allow for a more stable ride? I realize they would have to be restrained from settling down. Just a question. Jon

I rented 20ft heavy duty trailer which was pulled by my Toyota Highlander Got to the seller 3:30h drive where the guys from the town showed up with BIG tractor to help loading the backhoe. That was easy!
Used 4 3,333lbs straps to tie the backhoe to the trailer and 1 1lbs to tie top of the subframe to the trailer. By the time I got to the seller it started snowing in MA and I was bit nervous driving back through the endless mountains with the fresh snow on the ground - about an hour drive through local streets (40 mph speed limit) and 2:30 highway. Once I got the the highways I was relived.
Got home to NJ and it started snowing in NJ pretty heavily .
I was all by myself and I had to unload the backhoe from the trailer. My front bucket couldn't reach the backhoe with the trailer tires being on the side so I had to pull the backhoe back and to the side where I could get close enough and that's what I did. Pulled 10K lbs sling under the backhoe and used a shackle to connect it with one of the straps. I hanged the other end of the strap to the bucket and lifted the backhoe. To ensure the backhoe and the long subframe doesn't swing around I used the straps and tied each end of the subframe to a tree. And that's how I did it all

Let me know if you have any additional questions. Once again thank you all for all the help and I'm so glad I asked the question here. Before this post I was planning on taking just 500lbs straps, no slings no shackles.

Nice the right tool for the job. Always good to have overkill when lifting. That subframe made things easy. Nice ballance & chain points.
