Lifting front of tractor with FEL

Might you explain that a bit further, I don't understand what one has to do with the other.
Here's my thinking - If you were not supposed to lift the front of a tractor with a loader - then the engineers wouldn't allow it... the FEL would simply fall to the ground when you let it down (like float does) - instead the hydraulics are gauged to lift the front. When you just want to scoop along the ground - you use float (which does not lift the front).
Basically - it was a joke (not a good one at that).

Fishpick I thought you may have been joking, that was why I asked.

John - honestly - you didn't miss a thing...

Apparently I need real friends... this Internet thing is only a fad anyhow... :)

Most fel manufactures give a "digging depth below grade" in their specs. If you couldn't lift the front of the tractor off the ground, you wouldn't get enough downward force for the bucket to dig.

Loader detach/attach instructions on my JD 300CX tell you to lift the front tires 1-2 inches off the surface during the installation or removal of the FEL. Sounds to me like the dealer just wanted to get the guy off his tractor before he did something really stupid.

Isn't that how one is supposed to drag/push oneself thru the deeper mud or get the front wheels up over the rocks and logs?

Personally, I wasn't going to admit I've done that.

I don't get nervous until my loader pulls the REAR wheels off the ground...

OOPS, i wasn't going to admit I've done THAT, either. :D

There have been a few times when the bottom of my FEL bucket has been used as a tobogan to get the front wheels over the bumps or lift them out of the trench(or mud) so the BH can drag the tractor to safer ground...

I kinda get the old pucker factor going when that happens:eek: It does come in handy around here (ozarks) to pull or push your way through various "problem" areas.
