Liftmaster jackshaft garage-door-openers

I have that type on my 11' high by 16 ' wide door. Worked great for about a year and then one day i hit the up button on the remote and it went up shuddered and appeared to keep going past where it normally stops.
The door then fell almost to the floor.
I should have called the installer but just rewound the lift cables and cables and tried it again it worked a couple times but then once again went past the normal stop point and i pulled the power plug and just started using the manual rope.
That was over 2 years ago. I had better luck at our previous houses garage with my old chain drive version. ( it was on a 25' wide x 10' high door)...

Ii edited the post to say i do think the design is ok but do need to call and have it fixed.

The door, tracks and everything else work well still just in manual mode

I have one on my 12h x 18w door.

They are good for two reasons. Tall doors or low head room.

For a standard 7 or 8' high door, hard to beat the price of a standard opener. But beyond that, once you price extension kits....the jackshaft opener suddenly isnt that expensive.

Low head room is another good reason to use one.

They are quieter than any other style opener. But you need to make sure the tracks have enough fall for gravity to do its thing when it starts unwinding the jackshaft.

I moved to my my current home 2 years ago and shortly after installed one of the openers on the 16W x 11H door in my pole barn. It works really well. A couple of features that I like are that you can program how high the door opens. Great for me since I have no reason to have the door open the full 11 feet. I also like that it has a soft close feature when coming near the bottom.

One suggestion is that if you are using this opener, especially on a large door, to make sure the torsion springs are first adjusted for a balanced door.

I put one on my 12' high by 10' wide door last year. It works real well. My tracks are level on the horizontal part so I cant raise the door all the way or there's no weight to bring it back down. You can buy push springs to install on the end of the tracks to get it started down if you need it to go all the way up for a high vehicle.

You can use an extension cord to reach an outlet or install a new outlet. Make sure an extension is large enough.
