Liftmaster jackshaft garage-door-openers

Another nice thing I don't think I saw mentioned is that a traditional garage door opener pulls on the center of the door. Often some sort of stiffener is needed so you don't damage the top door panel. Since these connect to the jack shaft there's no stress on the door. If you are planning on wide doors, one of mine is 12' wide, it's a real bonus.

I've got one on my 16' x 9' door. Works great. Only downside is range for the remote is only about 50' and it's not compatible with Homelink. Not losing the overhead space for a motor and shaft is a great advantage and with 10' ceiling and a 9' door this was by far the best option for my situation. I'd definitely buy again.

I agree the range for the remote could be better. But mine picks up the signal from the road right as I am turning in the drive, and the building is 110' off the road.

It is compatible with homelink. I have my whole house automated and can control all lights and garage with my phone. I included my house in a geofence so once I enter the zone, my garage automatically opens or closes when I leave. I don't have to use the remote! I'll do the same to my gate. I do have the optional 828LM internet gateway installed though. Here's the info from liftmaster: Elite Series 85 | Garage Door Openers | LiftMaster

I bought my 2 openners at different times, one supports wireless, one doesn't.

I use these. They are a bit light, but so far so good. Just one problem on one. I have very little ceiling clearance to spare and not much drop, so I use helper springs to get the door going down. This means, the manual feature is not available.

I have these installed in my garage they are perfect for a high lift situation. I would not use them in place of a regular garage door opener. You need the weight of the door to allow the door to come back down otherwise you will need some type of spring to do so.

Not true, all you need is to raise the end of the horizontal tracks, so the weight of the door will start it moving down. No push spring needed.

Ok let me guess... I say the sky is grey....you reply "not true" its a mixture of black and white.

What did i say that you highlighted in blue? I said you need the weight of the door. Can you get that by rising the track, sure as long as you have enough room and things are running smooth. All you need is that one time for that wheel to hang up and your screwed. I do NOT recommend doing so. If you do NOT have enough door weight while the jackshaft releases you end up with a f'ed up messed and a possible serious safety issue.
These types of openers in my view and i believe in the view of the manufacture were NOT meant to be used where you can use a regular "pull back" opener. They were meant for high lift use because you can't use a regular opener in a high lift use situation. Ok thats it for me about a simple opener.
