Thanks, I printed out some of the .pdf's earlier. Unfortunately, my b&w printer can't reproduce the color and gray shading in the brochures good enough for the fine print in the tables. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I will offer you the following, JMHO from 29 years in the lawn business. Dimension & drive 75 for crabgrass, talstar for surface insect control, merit for grub control, trimec, speedzone & confront for broadleaf weeds. 5 apps of fertilizer, 1 every 6 weeks, Lime as needed for neutral ph, 7.0 is great, anywhere from 6.7 to 7.4 is ok. core aerate each fall, cutting height of 2.5" all season, 1 " of water per week and you are good to go!

I follow the scotts 4 step plan but I don't use scotts products. Scotts sends me an e-mail when each step is due. I then shop around and find a product that has the same ingredients as the scotts does. As for weed control other than crab grass I just use a little 24d in my sprayer. Sometimes all I buy is just plain fertilizer and use the 24d for the rest. I like using dry for the fertlizer and liquid for the weed control.

Is the topsoil up your way as rich as say evanston? I have done some excavation there & couldnt beleive how ritch, deep & rock free the soil was. Here in massachusetts the soil is rich for the most part, but its full of rocks!

Thank you. I appreciate that info, nothing better than first hand knowlege/experience from the pros. I've been wondering how to handle the insect/grub problems. The latter has not been an issue at this house, but we are beginning to see the black ants come alive. I've used a diazanon spray barrier around the house foundation in the past, but question it's effectiveness. Will a 'talstar barrier' work as well? Any other 'dog-safe' approaches to consider?

I beleive talstar controls ants and ticks as well. I see you are in new york, tons of restrictions in that state!

Made a temporary 3-pt platform for the first application, I'll finish up the fancy carryall later. Ended up mixing 32oz each of 2,4-D and liquid fert. (1oz/1000sf), plus 8oz surfactant for each 30gal. tank fill, and put down about 4 tanks total.

After doing a bunch of calibration runs up and down the driveway with different tips, I was thinking the TeeJet TP8003 tips worked best. The neighbor, however, wasn't quite sure why I was watering my blacktop and came over to check it out.

Ended up mounting my little GPS to control calibrated ground speed of 2.75-3 mph. Seems to have made for an effective kill, the little yellow dandies are shriveling up. The first time is the hardest, should go a bit smoother next time. Thanks for the help.
