Based on a few TBN'er comments, I have been led to believe that boom nozzles (because they operate at lower psi and spray directly down, vs. boomless nozzles, that use higher pressure to 'arch' larger droplets 10'+) are less prone to drift and easier to 'edge' with. That's why I figured a boom would be the right decision in my situation. *fingers crossed*

That may be right, but I suggest you still watch the drift very closely with the boom. I edge with my hand gun.

The nozzles I use are not true boomless but wide pattern- 60" between nozzles. I have a second set that are offset pattern I plan to use turned inside. It should have only about 2' outside my tires. Yes over spray is a concern with any spray, boom or boomless. A boom would be more accurate but also less manuverable. There is no one correct answer this time just tradeoffs.
Well, went back and bot the 30gal spot sprayer for $152. Once again the wallet won over want. For $300 saved I can live without the extra 10gal and buy a real trailer with high speed hubs. I am a little concerned about dropping to a 2.1gpm vs. 3.8gpm pump on the 40gal though. The smaller pump is supposed to be good for 26' vertical throw from the wand, we'll see.

I'll just strap it on the 3-pt carryall and wire into the tractor harness on the right fender. That'll make the on/off switch and wand an easy reach. I want to mount a boom in the front for better visability so I also picked up some misc parts. Pickin's were a little slim so I had to go with 1/2" fittings instead of 3'8", but didn't figure that would hurt anything. Ended up with (2) TeeJet Single and (2) Double Shank Nozzle Bodies w/ diaphragm check valves for 20" spacing and enough 1/2" EPDM to tee off the wand hose and snake to the front boom. That makes a 60" long boom and min. 80" spray pattern depending on height. With the B7610 width of 50", it should allow manuevering in pretty tight spaces.

Must confess, after staring at the application info trying to figure application rates, mixes for gallon vs. litre to find the best value, I decided I would need to sit down with a piece of paper and a beer to work it through. I wish the products had those little signs you find in supermarkets that tell you cost per count, etc. Not much of a math whiz, gets a little confusing trying to get the right mix for multiple chemicals, hoping calibration goes a bit easier. On recommendation of TSC help, the slow release fert and surfactant in the pic will work fine together with the 2,4-D. He also recommended the Anine vs. LV 400.

With Ag chemicals the rates are Quantity of chem per acre. For example I sprayed Arsenal to site prep tree planting. I used 20 oz of arsenal/ acre. My sprayer puts out 7 gallons per acre. I put 40 oz of arsenal and 14 gallons of water in my sprayer and drove 5 mph covering 2 acres with spray. Get a Tee-Jet catalog. There is a wealth of info on setting up a boom spray system and what size and type nozzle to use.

Back to mixes... I'll be spraying about 3-1/2 acres cool season lawn grass and the mix rate on the Gordon’s 2,4-D container label is 1oz concentrate per 4gal. of water to cover 1,000 sq ft.
If 1acre = 43,560 sq ft., then 1gal. per 1,000 sq ft = 43.56gal per acre, sounds like I'll need to apply a total of ~152gal of properly mixed solution for the entire 3-1/2 acres... or about 5 x 30gal tank fills using ~7.5oz of concentrate per 30gal tank fill? Will need 10.89oz. concentrate per acre or ~38oz. of concentrate for the entire 152gal of solution for 3-1/2 acres application. Is that correct?

What the label is saying is 1 oz per 1000 sq ft with 4 gallons of water to deliver it evenly by a homeowner. Using a calibrated spray you need 43 oz of chemical into the water your sprayer sprays covering 1 acre. You will need about 1.25 gal of chemical to spray your 3 1/2 acres. 2.5 gal should treat you lawn twice. 43 oz x 0.11 = $4.73/acre or $16.55 to treat the entire 3.5 acres.
