logging winch

BTW I made one of those tapered cones by cutting up one of those 50 gal blue barrels wrapping it into a cone shape and bolting it, heads on the outside. Works great.

That's a great idea - thanks.

I have been using the winch on and off this year. Pulls great. I managed to go over the winch hyd motor relief valve. 1500 psi That was really a strange new sound and vibration. Hugh clicking sound which I think was the relief valve bypassing and then not and then again . Soon as I let go of the wind it up button it stopped. Rearranged cable and it never came back. I continue to have issues with the steel cable winding up cross over and developing kinks. So the last 25 ft is really too big on the drum under the tie bars.
Big birthday kids chipped and I got an Amsteel blue rope. I gambled and got 3/8 150ft. It is so easy to wind up and hold by hand. However I have the same problem on the drum, not quite as bad. I could have gotten 5/16 but you know 3/8 is 3/8. The easy fix is to cut off the length that is the on the top row, Probably 25ft. Can always use the 25ft as an extension.
In the mean time I have a 3/8 150ft steel cable to use for something.
