I had to run for a new shower valve cartridge this morning, 45 minutes each way. The existing one would produce all hot or all cold, no mixing. We had only used it a couple times and it stopped mixing. I pulled it out and cleaned it as best I could, it still looked new. Tried it after reinstalling but same result. So off to the closest HD I could find. New cartridge installed and seems to work fine. Time will tell.

Once that was taken care of I laid out the header height for the second floor trusses. After lunch managed to hook up bush hog and mowed half the main field.

Saw some deer and rabbits. Deer where surprisingly docile considering I was mowing.

Then what a nice surprise, help showed up and we put up the second floor headers. Final floor to truss height works out to 9'9". I know seems odd, just the way it landed as we based the header height on the sidewall metal sheets. This way there's no trimming and I gain ceiling height. Good for flipping plywood and boards around.

I must return to the suburbs tomorrow to start my week Sunday morning. The plan now is to come back Thursday or Friday to prep for setting trusses next weekend.

Interesting to follow... I have done some stick framing start to finish... never a pole barn.

Thanks for stopping in to read the thread.

I have done a lot of stick framing myself, but this is the first pole barn of this size. I have done a few sheds (12x10's) years ago which where pretty simple. I would not suggest this style of barn to a first time builder. There is a lot more work and fore-thinking that is required compared to the normal "box with a roof". A couple times I have caught myself thinking I should have just done a four walls and a roof, but then as I complete each stage and the barn starts to show it's final shape I am reminded how nice it will be when done.

Spent the day finishing the trusses. We were able to get the center trusses up, diagonally braced, and purlins up. Still need to put on fascia boards but all in all a great day.

Lee your building is looking good. My building inspector for my barn project referred me to this document on pole barn truss bracing http://www.sbcindustry.com/images/publication_images/b10.pdf?PHPSESSID=9m9nvgjvo6ktuj0ijl9o0ct8u7 The second half of the document talks about permanent bracing of the trusses. The inspector said that if you are attaching the metal directly to the purlins then you needed X bracing on the roof plane and many builders get failed because they have not done it. Maybe this will help you also. Rick

Got the lower soffits installed. Has been real slow going with rain almost every day for the last 5 weeks. The weather should improve this weekend, so hope to have more pictures soon.

Looks good, I like the color. Will the insulation, be sandwitched under the tin, or hang on the inside of the framing.

Dave,

I have "double bubble" insulation that is going to be sandwiched between the steel and girts/purlins on the walls and roofs. After I put this sheet in place I slid the insulation behind it, the rest of the panels will get the insulation first then steel. I have also rented a manlift for a week to help move this along. It will be here monday as I am taking vacation to get some work done on this.
