On vacation, so back at it! I got here around 10 and jumped right in on the barn. I was spent 6 hours plugging away. The west wall has double bubble, a man door, and siding. I also managed to get the rat guard and first pieces of double bubble and siding on the east wall.
Thanks guys. I was getting frustrated with it because for the last month I have only been able to come out and work on it one day a week, with no helper. As my summer vacation is this week I did rent a 40' manlift for a week. That showed up this morning, talk about increasing production! I had done the west wall off an A-frame ladder, took most of Sunday. This morning I got a few panels on the east wall off the ladder before the lift arrived. I know the sidewalls are only 12' but I figured it would be a good place to get used to the lift controls. I was amazed at how much quicker the east wall went using the lift. The basket is large enough to keep all the needed tools with me and room for a few lengths of double bubble.
Once that was done I figured the best thing would be to work on the front wall since the lift was already on that side. The front is also a bit more time consuming with the three overhead doors and double windows on second floor. So I spent the afternoon finishing up the purlins and gable nailers on the front. Again, the lift was invaluable! I took a short break to run to the local lumber yard for some stuff to frame out overhead door sides. After looking at the time and radar I jumped on installing the windows. Took a minute to figure out how to make framework for them in a pole building, not the same as stick framing. The windows took awhile after the framework was in because when they were removed from thier previous building the homeowner took a sawzall and cut the nailing flanges off. What I wound up doing was to take all the guts out and install the frames by screwing through the frames. Kinda like you would do with replacement windows. Them I had to put back in all the guts and sashes. Like I said, took some extra time, but worth it as the windows were free. I even managed to get everything picked up before the rain started.
A few things have gotten done since last update. Siding is up all the way around except the upper sidewalls. They still need some framework and windows. It is with great satisfaction that I can report that after 10 hours and 2000 screws ALL the roofing is on! I am so thankful for the two friends that came over and spent their Saturday roofing.
I have some gable trim to finish up and caulk around windows to do in morning then I will be done with the lift.
