That sure looks like wear to me - almost worn into the bolt holes. The road will put a nice bevel on a blade, almost parallel to the ground where the original bevel is much sharper. You see the same wear on the upper right corner where the blade has already been reversed once. I would reverse it back before the holes disappear and start looking for a new blade.
Check out these cut profiles. Both were from the same blade. Originally the whole thing looked like profile of the shiny cut. You can just see a little wear on the right edge. The rusty piece was cut where the blade was worn off by a good inch. Obviously the blade was never flipped, the left edges are still the original profile.

By the way - that's a real nice grader - wish I had one like it.

Ok,
nobody understands what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about the cutting edge.
I'm talking about the edge of the Moldboard.
I think charlz is on the right track.
Since I wasn't around, or at least old enough to see one work, in the early 50's, I'll just have to speculate on the reasoning for the blade (moldboard) being built the way it is.

I would say for cutting ditches, too. If this is the angle you are talking about.

I see what you are talking about. The blade is reversible, meaning it has two cutting edges. One corner on the opposite side is beveled down (the lower Right and the upper left). I beleive it is for cutting ditches, as the sharp point would be more prone to catch and or bend.

Looks like the blade has never been flipped and is worn enough to be.

NOPE! I ain't talking about the cutting edge.
I'm talking about the end of the moldboard that the cutting edge is mounted to. One end is vertical, the other end is not.
If you will look at both ends of the 'cutting" edge you will see that it HAS been reversed, is heavily worn on the other end and the wear would indicate that the "not vertical" end was always in the lead.

I just happen to have a cutting edge off of one of our county maintainers and it is in very good shape. ( and heavier'n all get out)
A few new holes in it, torch to length and viola, a new cutting edge. :D
Yes teg, that is what I'm talking about.

how'd you do dat?

You know, I was just looking at my pics again and I didn't realize how much junk I got lying around. I need to clean up.

Looking at the picture above with the blade set at that angle shown, now imagine the wheels set so that the leading corner is down like it was cutting a ditch. If the end of the blade was cut square like the other end, any vertical obstruction such as a post would hit the top, or the curved back of the blade, and not allow the cutting edge to cut close as it passed.

Hope that helps

That's pretty much what I figger'd

Excellent analysis.

I ain't selling it.
I decided to fix it up and keep it long enough to let it rust up again.

Sorry, I now see the angle you meant. Of course Sherweld is right. You can tell that's the normally leading edge by all of the wear on the cutting edge :)

So you have a couple of old tires laying around... Didn't you just change the tires on the grader, and probably had to drag most of those out till you found just the right one!
I spent the last two weekends cleaning up around here, and it isn't nearly as neat as your place.
