OK. I guess I had that mixed up. I know I've read news stories of people being arrested or charged with having body armor, but they must of been convicted felons already.
This is just a guess, but I'd bet there would be additional charges if you committed a serious crime wearing a bullet proof vest.
I've got Nam era flak vest and shorts, but except for the smaller, weakest calibers, I don't think they are designed to, or would stop projectiles. They are heavy though.
I'm sure it varies by state like most laws and regulations. The President often pardons some convicts at the end of their elected term.
