Looking to buy a "B" or "BX" soon in MA, CT, or VT

Re: Looking to buy a \"B\" or \"BX\" soon in MA, CT, or VT

the minimun is on a chart you fill out based on gross income.

It applies to mail order and internet sales, as wall as over the counter sales in other states. Pretty bad huh?

They are going to do away with the chart in a year or 2 and you will be responsible to calculate it yourself or be audited.

I just put in a number to be safe.

Re: Looking to buy a \"B\" or \"BX\" soon in MA, CT, or VT

If you purchase over the counter in another state, you will be paying that states sales tax, and the only thing that NY would be entitled to is the difference in the sales tax rate.... ie. MA is 5% and CT is 6%..... CT would get 1% of the total purchase price for there part of the sales tax.

I think you may be correct on that one. Makes me want to stop using the Debit and credit cards. How can they trace cash??

( White's Farm supply wanted $16,000 for the BX23,

Evans said $15,500.

White's also quoted me $20,000 for a B7610, FEL & BH. That seems high.

The tax is based on either:
the county where you live if the tractor is delivered or
the county of the dealer if you pick it up.

This assumes that both the buyer and dealer are in NY.

Although if I buy out of state I can avoid both state taxes completely if they deliver it. )

Is the 15500 with or with out a mower?
Mine was 14150 with out a mower. I got it with the 60'' MMM for 15500 delivered.
If Evans $15,500. Price includes a 60''MMM and free delivery Then that's a very good price.

Re: Looking to buy a \"B\" or \"BX\" soon in MA, CT, or VT

Thought I would resurrect this post and thank the folks who recommended Emerich's and Jim Crane.

I purchased a B3030 with the 403 FEL and BH75 from Emerich's, and everything went great. Had the product delivered to eastern/central MA, set up and using it the first day.

Ignoring taxes, delivered, I saved over $1800. I will likely pay the USE TAX... but as far as that goes, I can push the expense out to next year, and fiddle with my witholdings/deductions in the mean time, so that its impact is significantly reduced come tax time.

The Kubota change to 36 month 0% financing was huge, made everything that much better. I think that new financing came into effect the day or two before I closed the deal.

I'll get some photos up of my new toy ahhh tool soon....

Jim

( I just bought the BX2230 from Chappell. If you have a competing offer they try to get pretty close to it. It worked out well for me since I also got $1,000 trade in for my Husqvarna 1542XP.

You can't beat this by buying used.

Re: Looking to buy a \"B\" or \"BX\" soon in MA, CT, or VT

( I went thru the same search you are doing now. Finally settled on a local Ct. dealer and bought a Case. There have been many posts on the tax issue, just ask Junkman. I decided it was not worth the worry about Infernal Revenoors catching me later, they have all the time in the world. If you are financing the tractor they are searching the paperwork to nab out of state sales. Unless you pay CASH ( and I mean dead Presidents), a paper trail exists. You might enjoy living on the edge /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I went to my local dealer (Woodbury Tractor), got his best price and since he was so close in distance and $, it was done. Good Luck w/ the decision, I think we all went thru it, the BX is a great machine. )~~~~~~~~

There are about 3 ways to avoid sales tax.
1*A farm exemption
2*Have a vendors license
3*or in some other way are tax-exempt

Re: Looking to buy a \"B\" or \"BX\" soon in MA, CT, or VT

New York and Massachusetts have a reciprocal sales tax agreement. I also know that Massachusetts has similar agreements with the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island. When a selling dealer files a sales tax return, he lists all sales exceptions to the taxable sales. He then has to be able to prove why they are tax exempt. If he delivers out of state, then it is tax exempt. If the selling dealer gets audited, then the State where he files his returns, will forward the exempt sales to the state where the tractor was delivered, and that state will follow up looking for the sales tax. About a year ago, there was someone that was having a problem with the dealer in VA that delivered his tractor to his home state of MD, if I remember correctly. The dealer was being audited and there was some problems with the out of state deliveries not being taxed or reported. Don't remember all the details now. Tax avoidance is a very expensive event if you get caught. They want the tax and the fines / penalties & interest.
