nalle

Yes, I am bit worried about the the Tier Stuff. If I understand you correctly the 25HP would be plenty for the things we are planning to do, but the added weight of the Tractor will help with Stability, getting the work done and Safety. Correct?

Yes. Consider 2 X 3" wheel spacers too, for slopes.

We don't have any Shed/Garage for the Tractor or anything else for that matter.

Tractors do not have VINS like road vehicles, which can be easily accessed by law enforcement. Tractors have only manufacturer's serial numbers which cannot be readily accessed by law enforcement. Easily stolen; seldom recovered.

Consider security for your tractor from day one. Many use a used 20' shipping container for initial tractor storage.

Plan on use the Tractor in these ways:
  • Tons of other ways I haven't thought of yet.

Time for you to consider tractor implements.

BUCKEYE TRACTOR LINK: Buckeye Tractor Co -- Online

I love that you can order almost any compact tractor implement from a web vender and a big truck delivers it to your driveway four to six days later.

I used to live on the Gulf of Mexico, where I had boats.

Residential tractors are a less expensive hobby than boats ~~~~ but not by much.

and of course we need a Cab,

Going to the 1700 Series, is it worth the upgrade to the Premium? Price difference about 4K.

Not sure its been said yet, or if you have discovered it on your own, but I am pretty sure the 1700E series (1726E, 1734E, 1739E) are open station only. The premium 1700 series (1736, 1742, 49, 1754, 1758, 1759) can all be had with a cab. Very similar to the Kubota where they have the standard L01 and the grand L60 series currently.

So, if you want a cab, you are forced into the premium line with either manufacturer.

Reading through this post and looking at the Massey site, it appears there are four models you are considerating. The 1526 vs 1726e (which is the newest 1700 series model and likely 1526 replacement, the last 1500 series tractor available) and the 1734e vs premium 1736.

It would be nice if they have all four on the lot, but I have sat on a 1526 and it would be interesting for a direct comparison with the 1726e.

I've been on all of these tractors, though not all together. Massey used to offer a 1526 and 1529, but discontinued the line when they rolled out the 1700E series. If it helps for comparison, the 1526 is similar to the Kubota B series, where as the 1726E is similar to the Kubota L2501. With the roll out of the 1700 E series, Massey had no tractor sized in between the GC series and the 1700E. Customers asked, so they brought back the 1526. Probably nixed the 1529 due to the emissions requirements.

The 1526 (and no longer available new 1529), like the Kubota Bs, has a mid PTO so you can run a MMM, where as the Massey 1700E and Kubota L01 do not. I think you can get a mid PTO on the 1736, but of course you're getting into a pretty large tractor for a MMM, however, it would be useful if you wanted a front snowblower!

I love my Massey, but if unsure of sizing, its be well worth the time for the OP to investigate the Kubota line up. Compare the 1526 to the B2601, 1726E to L2501, and 1736 to Grand L 3560. And be sure to check out the kubota B2650!

I'll also mention the Massey 1526 and Kubota B01s do not have a cab option. The Kubota B50 series does (B2650 and B3350), then the Masey 1700 premium and Kubota grand Ls.

Real world price for open station ('Grand L') L3560 with more powerful LA805 Loader option is
$27,500 (+/-) before sales tax.

GREAT TRACTOR.

Tier 4 non event on my 1758. Owned 12 tractors this being my first cab tractor. I see you're in ID, do yourself a favor and get a cab unit. It's cold there once in awhile but not like MN.. Massey an unsung hero as I've owned most of the top players.

I read your needs listed in post #1 and i would quickly tackle those with either my Massey GC1710 SCUT or cabbed Massey 1758.

When I was shopping for a SCUT, I was very worried about buying "too small." I asked many folks what a bigger tractor could do that the little one can't. Most common answer was they can all do the same work, it's just going to be completed faster on a bigger tractor and slower on a smaller tractor. Before other start to howl about that, yes, it is a generalization, but I have operated both the "bigger" tractor and the "littler" one and I have found it to be mostly true. And sometimes the "little" tractor fits in places the big one won't-- like when I used it to demolish a deck attached to the house and repeatedly drove it over the lawn. The big tractor would have torn that lawn entirely up.

What is a huge difference is that one has a cab, and one does not. If it's cold, dusty, or hot, sunny, or if there are lots of bugs, or hornet's nests ..... I want my cabbed tractor!!

Hi Everyone,
thanks for all the input and suggestions. We were on our way to Massey and the Turbo blew on our Truck, so maybe Saturday if the weather isn't a snowstorm.
For the Shed/Garage we don't have the option to have one right off the starting line, but we are far up into a Canyon at a dead end road with very watchful neighbors. If they want to get something the Shed won't stop them either. Just to get it out of view, 1/4 mile of curvy road tucked between the Trees makes all house hidden.
For the Cab, we would love to have one, but for 2 reasons we won't: Cost and don't know if crawling through the woods it would become more problematic (or expensive to repair). Though I always check to make sure we can add a aftermarket Cab on any Model we consider. Our weather isn't really "cold", winter hover right around 25-30 degrees. So not really even Jacket weather yet. ;) Do agree a cab would be nice, but better a tractor without then keep on doing everything the hard way.
For the Questions on other Makes:
John Deere to expensive for my Taste.
Yanmar still in the Race, have a dealer close by.
Kubota have to go look at them, dealer it pretty close. Also Cost will play a role. B2650SU might be a interesting Candidate
Massey is my front runner, mainly on Specs. Dealer within 70 miles

We also have Branson, LS, TYM in the 70 mile radius.

What is a B2650SU? I've never heard of it, only the B2650.

Watched a Youtube Video from a dealer, boiled down to the "SU" was a economy model without the mid PTO.
