Mowing Looks like a Slope Mower.

Well, I just got off the phone with Chris at Power-Trac. He was very helpful with recommending a machine. The 1845 is the closest machine to our needs he told me. He also told me that if we go down there that they'll let us try a machine and do whatever! Mow, brushcut and other stuff. I wasn't really to keen to the idea of going all the way down to Tazewell. Remember, I live in Michigan. But now I think it'd be a good idea.

Also, the Lastec deck for the 1845 was discontinued because lack of sales.

If I were you, I would look for a friend that had a PT, or ask someone that has a PT to go with you to Tazwell, and give the machine a through testing. Being new to this machine, you will not know all the little details to do a good test. A good salesman can sell you anything, and you might not even know what you purchased. Read their guarantee throughly and ask lots of questions. You might even use one of those MP3 recorders to record things that were said but not true. In some states you have to tell the other person that you are recording. I am assuming that you have read most of the PT postings. Do your best to make them give you a complete parts manual, hydraulics schematic, electrical diagrams, and technical manual, stickily for your machine, if such a thing exist, in your hand before you write the check. You do know they have a no return, tough sh** policy. If I were closer, I would love to go and assist you in your endeavor. Stock up on extra parts while you are there.

Lastec makes a PTO driven contour push mower. It requires 35 PTO HP. I don't think it would be too difficult to adapt one to a big Power Trac. The machine would have to have enough PTO power. It would probably require the 1850 to get there, but I haven't done any calculations, so that is a bit of a guess.

That deck is wider than any PT offers (100" vs 90") and is also pushing (or exceeds) the lift weight for the slope tractors. While the rated lift of the slope tractors is 1200 and the linked Lastec deck is 1065 the requirement to put the deck out front--effectively on a lever arm--raises a question whether the PT could lift it. The Lastec deck I have is 72" and is a modified rear finish mower.

I also have doubts that the 1850 could provide 35 hp to the mower given the losses inherent with hydraulic systems--there is only 60 or 65 gross hp available.

If you have 60 HP, the efficiency of 80% leaves 48 HP to the pump, and then you have to steer and drive the machine. You will also have a loss from the PTO pump to implement motor.

Good advice above. I also suggest that you use the actual machine that you are purchasing to do the test operation. Not one just like it, but the actual machine. That way they can fix any problems before you get it, and worst case you can say no way. Put a least a couple of hours on the machine even if it's just to drive it around their lot. They do have dirt or gravel to move and other test areas.

I saw in the Used PT section that there is a 72" Mower modified to fit on a 1460 and comes with a T12 attachment plate for $1,900. Would this mower work on a 1845 or 1850?
With this being a more expensive machine (if we buy new) we're going to cut a few corners with the attachments. Find out which we'd really need and go from there.

You generally want a mower that is as wide as your wheels. the 1850 is 90" wide so I don't think a 70" would do you much good.

The 1845 is more than likely the machine for use so it'd be used on that. An 1845 is only 69" wide so a 72" mower would work. But what hydraulic flow does the 1845 have?

Hawaii. Now there's a good place to run an 1850. Lots of hills and brush.

Would work on the 1850 with singles but not duals.

When you are there is the time to get any of THEIR attachments because of shipping being so high. 3rd party attachments are certainly an option. I have a Lackender bucket and minihoe (digs 6' deep - thing is great).

Yes, although the PT does not have a skid steer down pressure, and the 1845 1850 do not have the same arm strength. I think someone here has this device that he made..

15 GPM at 3000 PSI

18GPM at 3100 PSI for the 1850

Skid Steer Midsized are 17 GPM at 3K

Large sized skid can get to 30 GPM at 3K PSI

I would like to sell the PT deck. It has been stored inside and as mentioned above has about 10 hours total time. I have a second, unused set of of blades for it. Location is Eastern PA.

Digging with a set of forks seems like a good way to bend them. You could actually weld something like that directly to a Power Trac QA plate and skip the forks. PT sells blank QA plates for each of the machines. The 1445 plate is $300.

Some folks on here make their own QA plates for a lot less than PT charges. In any event, if your dad does end up buying a Power Trac, I strongly suggest he get one of the blank QA plates at the same time. It is very handy to have one lying around in case you need to cobble something up in a hurry.

But if you notice that Quick Spade can also be used on a bucket.
That may work on a PT 1845.
