Tractor Sizing Looks like purchase time - which one? L4760, L5460, L6060

I went from an L4630 to an M6040 ad the difference in power and size is impressive.
More weight and power yet it is more nimble than the L.

The nx6010 and l6060 are really two very similar tractors. I'm actually surprised at how little the difference is in price.

Excellent points from all. Thank you.

I will test drive the Kioti NX60110 one more time tomorrow. I need to get it ordered. Work needs to be done.

I did check out the M6060 on the kubota site and seems like a great machine. I fear it will be too heavy for my asphalt driveway. In fact, Im scared both the L6060 and NX6010 will be too heavy for the half mile paved driveway. I really don't want to stress the asphalt and have it start cracking prematurely. My fist mission with whatever I buy is to make nice edges for the side going down both sides so i can drive off everywhere and not worry so much. I just wish Kubota wasn't so much money. It is such a premium you pay for the brand.

And for added pleasure, I now need to build a pole barn to house all this stuff. I figure that will take me about 2 years of research to find the proper size and type that I want. Dear lord have mercy.

If weight on the asphalt is a concern, what tires are you going to use? Asphalt is particularly sensitive to point loading. You can go to a heavier tractor and have the same effect as a lighter one as long as the heavier one has wider tires and a smoother tread design. Not many people like the turf tread tires(R3s), but they sure are gentle on soft asphalt or sand/gravel. Turfs don't do well on snow or ice and so require chains for winter - and we are back to denting the asphalt. The compromise tread is a wide R4 industrial or radial industrial.
There's good reasons the R4 wide industrial is standard for most industrial machines.

The big paddle tread R1 Ag tires are last choice if your concern is denting soft surfaces.

Im definitely getting turfs. I had them on my last tractor and liked them. I also think they are the preferred tire on snow. Its going off the edges that worries me the most. I did the dirt shoulders on a few hundred feet up near the house where there is grass. But there are a lot more exposed edges. Here are some pics of the edges that I'm concerned about.

Ah...a turf tire guy! I had turfs on a couple of tractors years ago and sure did like them. Very stable and low center of gravity. Noticibly better ride, too. And although there are times then they have less traction than Ags, there are just as man times when turfs pull harder. It helps that I don't do any real field work like plowing or springtooth where Ag tires are needed because they sink into the loam. So I stick with industiral and turfs.

But I see where your concern is. The driveway looks nice, but there is no hard edge to the asphalt and in fact it probably feathers out at the edge. And that dirt edge is sure to compact.
I'm not sure I see a solution except for time, and maybe some sharp gravel at the edge, but having turfs is gong to help in every way.

Check out the R14 tires. Messick's has a Video out about the tire. I have had R4 tires and the are horrible on ice. They need chains. If you have had turfs and are happy the would be reasonable. Check out the R14 it seems like a decent balance.

Maybe.... I've had R1, R3, and R4 on ice and they are all terrible on glare ice. Of the group, the turfs were best and the R1 ags worst on the ice.... but all could have used chains on slopes and none of them needed chains for normal winter work on the flat - even in medium snow. But start working on even a modest slope and chains were the only answer. Without chains I've been in situations where I could plow downslope without any chains just fine and then couldn't even drive back up the plowed driveway.

I don't see anything in the video that tells me how the R14 can be better on ice than any of the others. But it does look like a better dual purpose tire for traction in dirt and grass.
Could be I'm missing something.

rScotty - on glare ice and on a slope it's not the tractor or tires that will make/break the situation. It's a good set of chains - on all four - that will complete the job. I've had more than my share of a side-sliding M6040 on glare ice, on a slope, on my driveway. I use sawdust from my shop and chips from my Wallenstein. Cheap & handy.
