Lost a beloved pet today

The hardest times are when the routine of owning a great pet catches you off guard, I lasted two weeks and then put a deposit down on a golden doodle.
I hope you find peace.

O
I hate it when a family dog dies. every one we have had has!

There have been a few "special ones" that you just want to keep .

But reality. Dogs live about ten years (that's why they don't need constant dental care.

We live about 65 years (we need dental care ;_)

Dieing is part of life. move on. It has Nothing (and everything) to do with god's plan.

A pet is a member of the family. Losing them is hard, especially at such a young age. You gave Maggie a good life, it was obvious from your posts.

You sir Have not suffered real loss.

Or so it seems to me.

How much do I expect to be lamented in passing? None at all. .... Nor did the dog. The dog and I are kindred spirits.

KiotiKowboy, sorry for your loss. All pets are special but dogs have a way of truly being a member of the family.

Sorry for your loss at such a young age. Been there many times. We have an aging Min Pin going downhill rapidly. Even with seven other dogs, it's not going to be easy saying goodbye to the "mouth" (yap, yap, yap, lol).

Though not the same, we had a young horse with an invasive tumor in her nasel system. Though the chances were minimal, we put her through the op and followup care only to have the tumor rebound. In the end, it is sometimes better to let go then to put an animal through so much pain and suffering because it is so hard to let go.

I have had others tell me that if one is lucky, that during their lifetime they will have one pet that stands out above all others. Albeit, perhaps an unfair statement because all animals have something to offer if we let go of what we wish and accept what we have.

Thank you for sharing your pain and allowing everyone to share. Doing so promotes healing for all.

A righteous man regards the life of his animal ... Proverbs 12:10

I understand what you are saying but I feel you assign too little significance to God's Creation and His plan for redemption of that Creation. Animals were not an afterthought of God. It is my belief they deserve a little more than "Ho Hum, get another one" when they pass. We are commanded to be Good Stewards of God's Creation and I contend an absence of appreciation or respect is less than our charge.

My contention is that the appreciation and respect comes in LIFE.
Seems to me you have that covered very well.

The dog is gone, having full filled it's life's mission.

How will you best heal?

I would get another, if the pain of loss allowed.

To reiterate the comments of another.

"We lost a young dog a year ago (hit by car). First feeling was we never want to go through that again but within about a month we gave a caring home to an abandoned dog. She's sleeping in here bed this morning and helps us to move on. "

"Move on" was what I wrote.
