Ls engine issue?

Just out of curiosity, does anyone follow LS on their FaceBook page? Any discussion on this issue?

I'm not on FB, thus the reason for asking.

No Facebook for me... Just TBN & YouTube .

Any updates from those who have had problems

My Boomer 40 was towed to dealership 2/8 after failure and have not heard anything regarding the autopsy results from either sales or service dept...so no update here yet. I will let everyone know what they think may have caused the regen cycle/engine failure as soon as I know for sure.

Looking forward to hearing from you

The only thing temperature related I can think of that would cause a catastrophic failure like that is the wrong oil

You would be correct.

So it sends raw fuel to the DOC/DPF in order to cook (400 - 500 degrees or more) all that nasty out of it. But the extreme ambient temperatures wouldn't let the fuel get hot enough. So instead of cleaning the DPF, it clogged it.

Dummy computer sends raw fuel into exhaust, doesn't burn, clogs DPF..

DPF burn off is 1100-1200°F. Raw diesel will not clog a DPF but rather it will flow through just like the water does. Actually raw diesel is not injected in the DPF regeneration process. It is injected and ignited right as the exhaust valve is opening where it finishes burning in the DOC/DPF so raw fuel is not actually injected directly into the exhaust.

Not sure it's seized as much as it's hydrolocked from all the diesel fuel still stuck in the combustion chambers

Close. Hydrolocked due to oil from the turbo would be more likely.

Sooo... The engines that have had issues are newer, and all in a colder climate? Now I'm nervous.:ashamed:

I wouldn't be nervous if you have heated storage.

15w-40 dino oil isn't ideal but it didn't cause your problem, IMHO.

15w-40 is the culprit. If the tractor is stored in unheated spaces, say below 15°F, the oil is too thick which will starve the turbo and it will grenade itself. Oil will then come out the exhaust, into the intake, or both.

I think all this will come to light as the dealers communicate with customers that have had a turbo go out. I believe you will also see the recommendation for northern climates to use a 0w or 5w oil in the winter.

What would be so special about this one engine that makes it more sensitive to borderline oil, compared to the many other engines that have been used the same way for years? Maybe a newly spec'd turbo?

Dealership responded today. Turbo failed causing one gallon of oil to enter the engine and hydolock it. New turbo and new starter and it's good to go now. Have a feeling this probably aged my engine considerably especially since dipstick had lots of fine metal on it after I added a gallon of oil it had lost. Not sure what my recourse is but for sure I will be sending an oil sample in at next oil change...sure the rod and crank bearings have more wear than 26 hours of use:(

^^ Might be one of those where it's worth a couple of extra oil changes a few hours apart to help clean it out.

Dealership stated factory fill on New Holland Boomers is 5W40 full syn, guess there is a service message suggesting 0W40 full syn for cold climates. Dealership changed oil and filter and put 5 hours on tractor, will drain and fill oil and submit sample for analysis. They are also changing dpf due to still 30% restricted after three forced regens.

So, my dealer brought another 4155 over Monday morning and took mine back to the shop. Thursday morning he brought mine back with a new turbo. He even threw in my 50 hour service while they were relacing the turbo. Can't say enough about the excellent service and speedy repair. Thanks to Bruce Anderson and Brian, his tech, at Synergy Coop in Ridgeland Wisconsin. Thanks LS for standing behind your product.
