Ls engine issue?

Dealership stated factory fill on New Holland Boomers is 5W40 full syn. They are also changing dpf due to still 30% restricted after three forced regens.

I'm willing to bet they meant 15w-40 because 5w-40 should be plenty thin at cold temperatures. I guess I could sample mine to find out.

I was wondering if they were going to change the DPF. That much oil won't burn off quickly if at all.

Thanks to Bruce Anderson and Brian, his tech, at Synergy Coop in Ridgeland Wisconsin. Thanks LS for standing behind your product.

I know those guys and your right they're good folks.

Service Mgr specifically stated 5W40 full synthetic was factory fill and CNH is now recommending 0W40 for colder climates.

Dealership stated factory fill on New Holland Boomers is 5W40 full syn, guess there is a service message suggesting 0W40 full syn for cold climates. Dealership changed oil and filter and put 5 hours on tractor, will drain and fill oil and submit sample for analysis. They are also changing dpf due to still 30% restricted after three forced regens.

If you haven't driven it a lot since you got it back, if the dealer didn't run it a lot and, most importantly, if you like this motor......... Consider flushing out the block and oil passages.

On race-cars, if we grenaded a cam, or anything else in the old, old days (Chevy's are bad for that) we'd pull the valve cover and the oil pan and pour some mineral spirits through it. A Gallon or thereabouts. Wait until you're ready (at least an hour) and fill it with oil, give it a new filter, start it and then drain and fill it with fresh oil and give another new filter after a half-hour of run time.. Sounds like a lot but, in our defense, oil was about a $1 a quart and we had 55 gallon drums of it. YMMV

Might be a waste of time and money but..................

Maybe the Dealer flushed it out really well. I would hope he did. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Ask somebody

Wow. Just wow.

So if I'm reading this correctly, it has nothing to do with regen, but rather cold start initial operation with the wrong cold viscosity oil. ****, I was hoping 5W-40 syn would be enough. I better be careful.

Next question: "Partially" failed turbo seal = oil consumption and/or more frequent regen's?

Diagnosis would be to remove and inspect I spose, since the DPF won't allow it to belch smoke at startup?

Based on diagnosis dealer gave me I'm guessing turbo contaminated dpf causing regen cycle to clear dpf. Surmising regen was result of turbo failure not the cause. New dpf due in this week so hopefully I'll have tractor back by weekend. Still very concerned about an engine with 5.3 qt oil capacity with filter being 4 quarts liw on oil in 15 minutes

Hope you get your tractor back and in great condition.

It doesn't get nowhere near as cold here as you guys get or Canada but I still plug up my oil pan heater if I plan on using the tractor on cold days.

I only use an oil pan heater, not a block coolant heater, I had prefer my oil be warm and flowing right from startup.

I still let her idle a bit before I actually start working it.

I was thinking the same thing.

An oil pan heater is much better than the ol' frost plug heater.

Well new DPF arrived at dealer today, hopefully will have my Boomer back for the weekend. Dealer sent me the New Holland service bulletin that describes to a "T" exactly what happened to my tractor. MTron equipped tractors built after 7/3/2018 have factory fill 5W40, ones built before have 10W30. Tractors built after 8-8-2018 have a software strategy that limits cold idle rpms to protect turbo during warmup. If you have an LS or New Holland 1.9 MTron tractor built before 8-18-2018 be sure to change to 0W40 full syn and contact your dealer regarding software update. New Holland bulletin (knowledge Article) KA000001894 dated 10-31-2018. Hope this helps save someone the trouble I had to experience...if I had know about this issue I would have addressed it before the winter season.

This is NH's software update. I wonder if the LS software is the same and if they are driving this or if they will handle their issue with a separate solution.
