I know this subject has come up before and I have read everything I could find, but I still haven't found the answer I seek.

First of all, I apologize for starting a new thread on this. If the answer is out there, please point me to it.

LS recommends the following for HST fluid:

API GL4 ISO VG 46/68 LSTH570 (Manufacturer: GS Caltex or S-OIL TOTAL Co. Ltd.)

New Holland recommends this for the Workmaster 40 (same tractor, even says made by LS Mtron on the tag :p):

NEW HOLLAND AMBRA MASTERTRANョ ULTRACTION

Threads on TBN say this will work in our tractors:

Traveller Premium Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic Fluid

My question is which one do I use for top offs? Are they all universally compatible? My dealer told me to use semi synthetic. He said do not use 303 fluid because it will damage the tractor. He wasn't much help. I need to put a little back in the system and need to know what to use.

Thanks!

I have a NH workmaster 40 made by LS.My dealer told me its ok to use 303.Tractor is still in warranty.Asked whether that would void warranty and was told a FLAT NO. Maybe others can chime in.

I'm using the Traveller Premium. Seems to work just fine.

I have Phillips P66 PowerTran Phillips 66 PowerTran Fluid | SCL available locally and have used in my DX35 and Ck30HST. As it is API GL4, I suspect will use in my XR4140H. Haven’t checked with dealer yet.

I use Chevron THF 1000. It meets LS required specs and I can get it at my local Napa auto parts store.

Do not use 303. It is not designed for wet brakes!!!

303 is made for older tractors and should not be used.

I went back to my dealer and purchased the 5-gallon pail of LS hydraulic fluid. Do I need it, dunno, but I’m not gambling my new tractor of the hydraulic fluid price alone. My last hydro was a New Holland so I used their fluids and 23-years later had no issues related to fluids. Your results may vary

Please do not use 303!!! Any good quality name brand hydraulic oil is OK. For a hydrostatic transmission you should use the best oil you can buy, and lots of oils are very good, but synthetic is the best. It says on the 303 bucket that it should not be used in any machines made after 1970, and it does not meet any specifications for modern equipment. It is cheap to buy because it is made with unknown low quality base oil and other questionable ingredients, and has no additives in it like viscosity stabilizers, anti-foam agents, anti-wear or moisture resistance like good quality oils have. There was a class action lawsuit against the companies marketing 303 because it is very poor oil that does not meet the standards that they claimed it did. Unbelievable that a dealer would tell you it was OK to use that crap. They obviously know nothing about oil or warranty. LS warranty policy specifically states that failures from using improper lubricants are not covered, but how would they find out? They are getting stricter on warranty, but they don't require an oil sample for analysis when submitting a warranty claim like the big farm equipment manufacturers do. (Not yet.)

I use chevron thf 1000. Good stuff, with long known history of top performance in different applications.

I myself avoid 'farm supply store brand' oils and stick to known brands like chevron, Union 76, mobil and such.

I do also use dealer oils like deere, and new holland. There oils are custom blended from top oil companies to there specifications and often cross over to other manufacturers specs.
