I run into this myself occasionally, especially in colder weather. Is there anything wrong with putting a little heat around the zerk to soften up the grease? Also, there is a little bit of play around the pins on the cylinders which tip the bucket. I have a 7309 and looked at one at the dealers and it has the same thing. Is this normal, or a result of wear?

( If it were me and it doesn't seem as though they were ever greased, I would remove the pins and clean them up. Re-install pins and for a small amount of $$ change the zerk fittings. This should not take very long and can't be more than 2 or 3 dollars for the fittings. You can then rest easy knowing you have clean pins with a good grease bath.

This is exactly what I would do. You can also check the pins to see if they are worn. Most likely the hole in the pin is plugged with rust.

You shouldn't have to heat anything up to grease it. Grease doesn't freeze.

Heat applied by a little propane torch may soften hardened grease. The zerk may also be plugged with paint. Heat would help here too. Sometimes they get plugged by dirt or sand. Probably easiest to replace the zerk.

When using the loader grease at every fuel fill up. Makes for easy scheduling.

All the pins on my loader are sloppy from wear. They were tight when new. And yes it has received regular greasing. Perhaps the holes worn in the bottom of the bucket indicate a lot of use.

I have almost this exact situation w/ newish 24D. Initially, I spun the zerk off and cleaned the old grease out. This didnt help. I mentioned it to the dealer's tech and he said I needed a gun which could produce more pressure. I usually use a pistol grip type. He used a lever type and did get some grease in. He said once the pin wears a bit the problem would stop. However, he did say I should get as much grease in now as possible.

Serviced my tractor/FEL/BH yesterday and ran into several plugged zerks. Most were OK after I pulled them out and pumped grease through. A couple I gave up on and just swapped with a known good one to finish the job. The bear was the lower boom pivot on my hoe. Wouldn't take grease, even after I verified it was open. I ended up driving out the pin which was dry and rusted (this hoe spent several years sitting outside, unused). Cleaned it up, pregreased it and the bushings then put it all back together after pumping some grease through the zerk into the empty bore. After assembly I did get it to take grease /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Rob be extra careful with a backhoe. If I am using mine all day I grease it in the morning and half way through the day as they need the extra lubrication because of the extra stress involved.

I had the same problem while trying to lube my "new to me" fel. I took out the pins (a very simple procedure) and found they were packed with dirt. I then removed the zerks, used a drill by hand to clean out the packed dirt from the grease channels, re-lubed the pins and re-installed. No problem since. I've re-lubed the pins many times since and the grease flows freely. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I believe you have the same condition anbd will achieve the same results.

Hi all! I just bought a 1995 Ford/NH 1715 with FEL and also just joined this group. I am completely new to tractors, and thought I should go through all the fluids and lube points. I know this is a total newbie questions, but what type of grease should I use for these lube points? I imagine I will be having a lot of questions in the future so I apologize for my ignorance in advance.
