Sixdogs or others,

Just checking... Are the bolts for the wheel weights just carriage bolts?

Thanks...

Yes, but. There are two kinds of carriage bolts. On some, the square shank under the head has a small radius cut into each of the square corners. That type works for the starter weight since they go into the tight and square opening on the cast center. They won't slip.

For successive weights. you need the carriage bolt that is fully square under the head. This gives more "meat" to grip onto since the openings for additional weights have wider tolerances. Most tractor places carry them, and if you're feeling rich, so does the dealer. They're all just carriage bolts.

If you plan more than one set, put the bolts in before you tighten the prior set.

Thank you sixdogs!

By-the-way, is it too much trouble to get me the length of the bolts for the first set and also the length for any successive sets? Are the bolts grade 5 or will grade 2 be okay? It looks like 5/8 diameter will work if I don't go metric - do you agree?

I'm going with two sets on cast centers.

Thanks,

Mike

Mine are plain old carriage bolts from the dealer and hardware store. Grade doesn't matter. The so called starter bolts are 5 1/2" measured under the head to the end and 6" over all length. I don't think either would matter but mine are likely 5 1/2" long. I'd say 6" would work but they sell 5 1/2" x 5/8".

The second set bolts, I'm pretty sure, were 7" bolts. That's what it said on the parts bin at the hardware store. I used metric washers for all because they fit tighter. Oops, I forgot to measure bolt size but I'm near certain 5/8". No need to go metric but there is a need to post pics here when done and during.

To center the second weight set you have to tighten a little at a time and jimmy them around with a pry bar or giant screwdriver. Takes 5 minutes and it's close enough. I tightened mine with an impact gun and they'll never go anywhere anyway. I think you can add up to three sets of weights.

You know that weights go one direction if the wheels are narrow and the other way if set on wide. Mine are narrow and bolts might be a different length for wide set wheels with reversed weights.

Thank you sixdogs for all of the time and help you have given me!

A 5/8" diameter carriage bolt fits perfectly! The dealer had a tractor with wheel weights and I estimated the starter bolt length to be 6-inches and the others to be 7-inches....So this matches your suggested lengths. If grade 2 are okay then the local hardware store sells carriage bolts for $2.15/lb which make a complete set for two wheel weights cost around $20.00 - this cost includes the nuts and washers.

Try to get metric close fit washers. I think you'll spend more than $20 and pictures or it didn't happen. :)

sixdogs,

One more question if you don't mind...

On my M7060 the wheels are 30-inches. What are your wheels and what is a wheel weight's diameter that you have? The weight for one of the wheels weight that I will be ordering is 164 # - is that what you have?

Thanks...

Yes, I have 18.4x30 and the 164 lb weights. They may or may not look a little different than the ones I have because of an update. With mine, you have to loosen the prior weight to slip in the bolts for the next set of weights and it's a real pain. The new weights have a groove to slip the bolt in without loosening them. Now, I like my style because I like that look but that's just me. I can measure the diameter if you want but Kubota uses this weight on many models.

sixdogs,

No need to take a special measure. After getting the diameter of the wheels from you I'm most certain they are real close to having a 21-inch diameter.

Thanks...

I'll measure anyway.
