Dealer report today, bad fuel! I buy my off road fuel from the largest seller in my rural area, and I bought supposedly clean 55 gal drums to store in, and I use filter/water separator. He said the filter was clogged with thick gel, and didn't smell like diesel, and the engine was pre detonating badly. He said he soaked a paper towel and it didn't burn like diesel, much faster burn. He wondered if it was biodiesel.

He said it could be a very expensive repair to repair the common rail injection system, I going to CAT tomorrow to buy diesel fuel test kit and mail a sample in to be tested. I bought the fuel from a marathon station.

Sounds like algae in the fuel.
Maybe the "supposedly clean" drums weren't.

That was my first thought too Rick. My Brother got algae in his fuel. The slimy gel was black though.

I will never buy a tractor with a DPF system on it after 30 yrs as a mechanic. There are still plenty of low hr tractors in excellent shape out there to be had only a few years old without that nightmare built into it

+1 on that but the price of Pre 4 units is climbing all the time as more and more owners come to the realization that T4 final motors all have issues and longevity isn't a strong point.

Sure, you can off them before their time (when they start having emissions issues) but somewhere along the line, someone gets stuck so they don't hold resale value like the old pre 4 engines do.

Kind of the like the 2500 regen intervals on the Kubota DPF before renewal. Maybe not the first owner or the second but somewhere in that lifetime, someone gets the cost.... and that is if all the other components survive that time, which is questionable.

Why both of my large frame Kubota's both smoke and why they are gaining in value all the time. Like my 1997 Ford F350 turbo diesel. Every year the retail value increases because it's a non emissions engine.

Like I've said in the past, Rudolph diesel would roll over in his grave if he knew what the emissions police did to his engine. Turned it from an efficient, reliable workhorse into a inefficient pig.

So looks like a fuel not DPF, bought fuel test kit from Ring Power, hope KTAC picks up this bill, seems like an accident to me. I inspected the drums with light and checked for any odors. So new golden rod filter on drum pump, new screen in water seperator and new fuel filter, then onto a computer check, wish I had a way to see error codes like cars do. If the drums full of fuel test bad I try to make the dealer refund me, I got the tanks from diesel supplier, paid credit card.

Algae is very easily seen in diesel because it's reddish black and it's slimy if you get it on your fingers. Anymore, I always add a biocide to my bulk tank. Been there and dealt with it. Not a cheap date.

Simple answer (cheaper too), buy a used but well cared for Pre 4 tractor but don't fiddle around, as more and more people come to the realization that post 4 units will most likely be problematic down the road (useful lifespan), the prices are increasing on used units constantly.

I like that, I own 2 M9000's.
