Mahindra 5035 PST - Shuttle Shifter Frozen!

My 4035 cable froze early this winter. I disconnected it underneath by the tank and used a heat gun to thaw it out. Because I kept the end low, a lot of water dripped out. It hasn't made any more trouble, and it's been below zero plenty of times.

it is -24 F here in ky. it's a real good feeling to know i spent the money thinking if this kind of weather ever came i would be ready. only have 16" of snow and could move it with no issue if i could only shift. wanna hear a real laugher... The dealer actually told me to back in my garage so i could just drive out without backing up. im thinking what i should do with 4 feet of snow pushed up in the front of the bucket , just drive over it ? i dont mind saying that is a real inconvenience.
i did try the heater by the way, it worked for about 10 minutes. and froze it in reverse. so i took the dealers advice and backed it in. now my garage is nice and warm.
And there is nothing in the manual about this issue that i can find.

I also have a 5035. I am not in a very cold climate, although we are haveing single digit temps as I type! Just wondering if the cable housing is holding water and if there is somewhere you could drill a whole to drain water so it would not freeze? I have not really looked at mine. I keep mine in the barn and don't plow snow. Just wondering what causes the cable to freeze up?

I am thinking its a poor design, and Mahindra doesn't seem to be aware of it, nor have an answer to solve it from continually being a problem in cold weather.

Thanks for the feedback.

Ive never looked at it but are you sure the cable is freezing and not what ever the cable is actuating. I think thats what a prior poster is saying talking about with putting anti seeze on. On the bottom side, the cable has to move something that usually pivots on a shaft. Any moisture on the shaft will 100% lock it up. And heating or lubing a cable does nothing.

On the bottom of the cable the connecting lever actuates a hydraulic valve that directs the hydraulic flow to the hydraulic clutch that changes direction. This past week, I ran into my first instance of the shifter being frozen. When I got it apart, I saw the hyd valve and called the Mahindra service rep, to ask if they had seen any instances where the valve had moisture in it and it had frozen instead of the cable. He told me the he hadn't heard of any with moisture in the valve. I didn't want to replace the cable and find out the problem was in the valve. Anyhow I proceeded with the cable replacement and it did solve the problem.
The cable has boots on each end and I did notice that when installing the cable it was very easy for the boots to get out of position, so I made sure they were on correctly before I buttoned the job up. I hope this will solve the problem for good and this customer has no more problems with it.

Why would you change the cable? Was it faulty? Why would you not just remove thaw/dry it out and reassemble. Sorry maybe that's what u did but u said replace

In my case the rubber boots appear to be okay. But there is something going on that is allowing water to enter and remain given the way the cable comes back up it can easily have water sitting in the low area of the cable.

Its not easy to get at the cable every time it freezes. This will now be the third cable replacement.

The rubber boots were in place on my 4035 also, and water still got into the cable. I wonder if it would be possible to drill a weep hole at the lowest point of the cable sheath?
