Mahindra 5035 PST - Shuttle Shifter Frozen!

Good idea, but I am not sure thats the answer, rather Mahindra should be on top of this and providing solutions since its not the first instance by others who have stated the same problems. My bet is its going to be a repetitive problem.

Is there a way to put a zip tie around the boot on the cable and on the cover? Then spray a little silicone.

I think the best solution would be to tap into the cable at the lowest point and install a sleeve arround it with a grease fitting so you can fill the cable with moisture displacing grease.

Yes I did replace the cable, as when it was thawed it still didn't work as smoothly as the new cable. I am going to experiment with finding a way to grease the cable.

Okay, just spoke to my dealer and he replaced the cable. Mahindra rep was there and tried the shifter before being replaced and it was frozen when he tried it. Dealer seemed to think it should not act up again and there was slight damage to shifter cable exterior rubbing on something. Also said he did some other changes to the cable without being specific. Says it was result of condensation freezing due to heating the cable (not sure I buy that reasoning) since it was frozen even before I put the heat to it. Time will tell.

Tractor is being delivered this Friday. Told him if it freezes up again then I want to speak to the Mahindra rep since he is now aware of the issue.

Thanks to all for the feedback.

If the cable was greaseable, that would solve the problem as well. I run into this all the time in lawn & garden equipment, and I have a tool for injecting lube into smaller cables. It won't fit on the large Mahindra cable though.

Okay so tractor came back, cable replaced. No problem with the cable, works well even after sitting over night in very cold temps in unheated barn, shifted freely. But now when in forward and the PST pulled back into neutral the tractor continues to move forward, unless the PST lever is jiggled and the brake lights aren't working.

Okay, I feel horrible, I started this thread and for some reason was not getting notified of messages. My fault for not checking. So, I got the tractor down to my local small engine mechanic and he worked with the dealer to figure out the problem. The cable needed to be replaced. Apparently there was a recall on it. Based on how it is installed, every time you used the shifter, it rubs on the cable and eventually wears a hairline tear into it. It then fills up with water, and presto, it's frozen. So the cable is replaced, and while he was in there, he found a broken fuel line, also a recall item. Since I am not the original owner, and bought it 1 year old, I own the $1000 bill. I am going to pick up the tractor right now.
Hopefully this thread helps anyone else with a Mahindra 5035 PST.

Thanks for the update. Interesting about the cable, recall and the damage. I had the PST cable replaced last week too. The dealer didn't mention a recall but did say the cable showed damage, no elaboration. During this recent ongoing extreme cold spell the lever and cable remained free and no freeze up. But now I have to have the forward crawl sorted out when the PST is put in neutral.

Even got a call from corporate HQ in Huston about the problem with the PST.

Still waiting for dealer to come down and do a test drive to determine the cause/fix. Thats been two weeks waiting.

Finally called Huston yesterday and got the name of the regional service manager for my area.

This tractor is causing more grief and aggravation, and is spending more down time then up time. What else will go wrong given its history..

At Mahindra we're hot happy til you're not happy!

If you needed it bad enough you would just take it up to your dealer.... hope it gets taken care of.
