Mahindra 5035 PST - Shuttle Shifter Frozen!

I hope it gets taken care of too. I am not paying to take it back up and I don't think my dealer is interested in floating back up.

Okay the dealer came down on Saturday and took a look. The reason he feels the tractor continues to move forward in neutral is because the PST box is shot, its not a repairable item, but full replacement. So back the tractor will go to have this corrected, they are also going to replace the hydraulic oil in the tractor and backhoe.

The reason the PST cable was freezing is because the plastic sheathing 7" down from the PST lever on the steering column was rubbing up against a steel bracket just above the transmission housing. Everytime the steering wheel is tilted would cause wear eventually wearing thorough the cable creating conditions for moisture to accumulate inside the cable and binding. Its been corrected by grinding the bracket down.

To solve the PST problem were the tractor would continue to move forward in neutral, we took off the lock nut on the upper buckle and screwed the buckle all the way down on and reattached the buckle to the PST lever. Taking approximately 1/8" play out of the cable was enough to correct the problem.

Ditto, I have the same wear and a frozen cable. Mine looks to be cut threw on the bracket that holds the spring for tilting.

Yes its the bracket that was cutting into the cable. My dealer ground it down so it would not rub.

I looked at mine today, and my cable is rubbing and wearing through also. I just got mine back from the dealer yesterday. I may just grind some relief on mine myself. Don't want to pay to have it hauled again! Does anyone know if you take the 3 bolts out of the dash cover if it will just slip off? If it does, it won't be a problem grinding it down.

I also, looked and I have the braided fuel lines everyone is having problem with. Do all of these go bad and leak or is it just "luck of the draw" type of thing? I have about 38 hours on mine and no fuel leaks so far.

You have to take off the lower steering wheel cover to get to the bracket which is the problem, two long screws need to be undone to remove lower cover.

I too have braided fuel line, and thus far never any problem. I asked dealer about recall on fuel lines, and they knew nothing about a recall. I have 378 hours on the machine. Lots of other problems but no fuel leaks.

Ok, thanks RaymondEdward. I guess I will hold my breath and hope for the best. If they are going to leak I hope they do it before warranty runs out! Probably try and address the bracket next week before I get anymore wear. I really like this tractor, but I can see several bad engineering problems already! The layout of lined is obsurd on this thing. Which I knew some of that before I bought it and talked to dealer about it. But, there were several things I did not like about every tractor I looked at. Some on features, some on engineering others on lack of options and high price for what you get.

An update - I received an e-mail from the Mahindra Dealer that indicates that there is no recall on the fuel line or the shifter cable.
I obviously misunderstood. My apologies.
Shesh

Okay, I feel horrible, I started this thread and for some reason was not getting notified of messages. My fault for not checking. So, I got the tractor down to my local small engine mechanic and he worked with the dealer to figure out the problem. The cable needed to be replaced. Apparently there was a recall on it. Based on how it is installed, every time you used the shifter, it rubs on the cable and eventually wears a hairline tear into it. It then fills up with water, and presto, it's frozen. So the cable is replaced, and while he was in there, he found a broken fuel line, also a recall item. Since I am not the original owner, and bought it 1 year old, I own the $1000 bill. I am going to pick up the tractor right now.
Hopefully this thread helps anyone else with a Mahindra 5035 PST.

I looked at my cable today, grinding down the bracket will not fix it! When my steering column is pulled down toward the driver it makes contact about a third of the way down. I ground it back about 1/8 of an inch off the bracket and it is not a drop in the bucket to what it would need. In order to clear the cable I would have to grind the bracket back so far the spring would not stay on it! I estimate I would need to cut the bracket in half to clear, at least 1/2 inch. When my column is all the way down it bends a pretty severe arch in my cable. I don't see anything I can tie the cable back to, in the right direction to clear either? It would have to be something substantial to hod it back as the cable is very stiff. Don't really know where to go from here, other than let the dealer figure it out. But grinding the bracket is not an option.
