Mahindra Paint Fade

Sorry folks I don't care what color it is it is going to fade. The paint used on tractors is not the same as automotive paint. Now if you want to have it repaired using high end high dollar automotive paint you will stop the fading issues. Only problem is you are not gonna want to use the tractor after getting the bill for the paint job.

I bought a $38000 kubota. How much paint is on a tractor. Not much. Using good paint at a factory would not cost $200 more. The worst of my paint problem is the cab. The cab is worth around $8000. For that you would think that they would do something with the paint. Also Carlisle tires are all cracked. Tractor is 2 years old and not left in the sun.

When I bought my tractor, I warshed it and put a good coat of wax. A lot of paint fade is just the loss of surface gloss. Some of it is due to the powder coat paint they had to go to after the EPA got after them.... If/when I ever get tired of the color, there is not much sheet metal on a tractor to paint it any color you want. I think I'd go 'Case' or 'school bus' yellow..... if I can still see at that age.... :)

I bought a 8560 this spring. I just got the shed cleaned out to put the old Allis chamler in for storage. Now I can pard the Mahindra under the canopy. Have not seen any fade yet. But I did not buy the beast for looks. As long as it keeps kicking *** on the farm that is all that matters. I have added natural pin stripping to the hood and a small dent from clearing out over growth. Natural buety marks for her. I love this tractor and make sure of the maintice on her. But I figure if you are buying a tractor it is for work and not for crusing.

My Mahindra is 3 years old and I have not noticed any fading. The loader is black. I do keep it under cover and out of the sun. I have a red F350 that is also red and it has faded, but I have buffed it a few times and the color comes back for a while then it starts to fade again.

I have been a Mahindra dealer now for 11 years, but I have owned and operated LaWall's Collision now for 33 years. The answer to the faded paint is to scuff the original paint with a 3M gray scotch brite pad and put 2 coats of automotive acrylic urethane clear coat over top. That will solve the fading problem. I know this isn't and easy fix, it is expensive, and it isn't something all of you could do but it does work.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
LAWALLSTRACTOR It's not something I would want to attempt doing myself, I have in the mean time done a bit of investigating.
To do the above the cost is high, it is approximately $3000 NZD possibly even more.
The 8560 Cab & FEL is on special for $62,990 NZD. Unfortunately it all adds up and it just won't be very competitive anymore.

I have had my 6520 for 5.5 years and no fading on it or the KMW 275 loader or the Bradco 511 backhoe. My 2002 Red Dodge Diesel never faded either. Both sit outside. Never seen a pinkish Mahindra here in Texas. But I have seen a pink Ford 8n.

Any good quality exterior SD powder will have UV protection and will not fade.

Paint fade is a very complex problem. All colors fade differently. Even reds fade differently. Some fade towards Yellow (pink) others fade towards blue. The exact Mahindra color fades to pink. To combat this, you have to vary slightly in the color so that it fades towards blue. This is an extremely over simplified version, but that is the scoop. You won't see any loaders produced by KMW in the last several years that fade to pink. We made the change quite some time ago.
