I am set on a new 50 horse compact tractor with 4wd and a loader. After talking to dealers with John Deere, New Holland, Kubota, Massey, and Mahindra. I have narrowed my choices down to two tractors. The Mahindra5035 - $25000.00 and the Massey 1552 $27,000.00. The Massey is a cash price so I will need to finance through my bank. The Mahindra is true 0% for 5 years. Both tractors come with 5 year factory warrantys. The tractors spec out almost the same with the Mahindra having a slight advantage due to 2000 pounds of extra chassis weight. Both dealers are equal distance away and both seem like good guys. My question for those of you in the know, what is the smarter purchase? Im sure the Mahindra is a great tractor but will it hold resale value? Also why is a off brand tractor (mahindra) roughly as expensive as the Massy.

I am not sure how you compare tractors. The Mahindra in this case is not 2000 lbs heavier than the Massey, but it is 1400 lbs heavier. That is 36% heavier and that amounts to a lot more traction and stability. As for pricing the Mahindra is 7.5% less expensive and if you figure out the 0% for 60 months, it amounts to quite a bit more. Also world wide Mahindra does rival Massey in tractor sales. Here in the US Massey does have a large edge over Mahindra in sales and yes the Massey will hold its value better. I am not saying the Massey is not a good tractor, it is just a quite a bit lighter duty tractor than the Mahindra you are comparing it to. Any how I wish you good luck with what ever choice you make.

what was the financed price for the Massey? You should be able to go to 72 months @ 0%. I couldn't find any specs on the 5035 to compare, I guess it must be a newer model.

Agreed. I had a Mahindra 6000 and I believe the 5035 is the same frame a substantially heavier unit. Old school larger displacement lower revving engine. I like the Masseys but having transitioned from a Mahindra to a lighter higher revving Kioti, the one thing I miss is the substantial feel of the Mahindras. I like the economy of the Kioti and the Cab, but I miss the brute torque and heavier duty loader. The Iseki based Masseys are more competitive with the Kioti lighter duty units, not that this is bad.

The 5035 is more akin to a large compact, born of the 3535 and 4535. See third pic in first post. Now taking orders!!!! - TractorByNet.com I believe you are referring to the 30 series tractors as being same frame as the 6000.

LOL, in my part of the country I'd almost consider Massey more of an unknown/has been/ than a Mahindra tractor. If the prices were equal, I'd go with the Mahindra. IMHO, Massey is living on an old name much like Cub Cadet. I'd take a Mahindra over either of those in a heartbeat.

Same in my neck of the woods. I don't know where the nearest Massey dealer is.

Sadly, neither Massey nor Mahindra have a strong dealer network here in northern Michigan. There are a half dozen green and orange dealers in my mental directory. Perhaps this is why those two dominate the market to the degree they do.

What a shame. That's an old Massey in my avatar. Frankly, if they were still "present" up here and doing more than merely re-branding a tractor (Iseki) made by someone else, (albeit a pretty good one, I hear) I'd move them up to my "must review" list. Is Massey anything more than a decal division? I dunno.

You know that a lot of brands do the same thing with their smaller tractors including John Deere and New Holland. I think that there are only a few brands that actually manufacture all of their own machines.

I guess it depends on the brand. My JD is all JD; engine and all. My Kubota L5030HSTC seems to be all Kubota except for some cheap Chinese hydraulic plumbing lines. I'm sure some will correct me, but I think most Kioti are pretty well all Daedong and the Mahindra tractor I looked at seemed to be mostly all Mahindra.

Maybe what you should have said is, "it may depend on the model".

I thought that the CUTs from John Deere came from Yanmar, they use to anyway. I thought that your JD was a utility and not considered one of the smaller tractors that we most often talk about here on TBN. I know for a fact that all of the 15 & 16 series tractors from Mahindra are built buy Mitsubishi, for Mahindra. Nothing wrong with any of this, just that they do not build the tractors themselves in their factories.

Yes as far as I know Kioti & Kubota are built by and for themselves. I have no doubt that others can share more info with us.

Lots of Mahindra's have Mitsubishi engines ...That is a positive in my book :)

"My JD is all JD".
I love it.
What kind of front axle is under it? What country was it made in? What model do you have?

All companies buy parts from someone else and put them in there tractors. I would love to look up and see where all the components come from. I bet it was "made in the USA" as well.

I'm gonna go bury my head in the sand as I look at my MF 5435 thats all AGCO components!

Same here. Jinma is more common than Massey. We have Kioti, Branson, Mahindra but no Massesy that I have seen living here 36 years.

Either way I like the heavier weight. Keep the light stuff for lawnmowers.

It all depends on perspective. Are you a man? Or, do you just think you're a man?? I bet I can show you several genetic markers that would show you could be a woman. Have any clue what race you are? You better bury your head further in the sand if you think you know. I was under the assumption we were talking about 'the vast majority'. If you want to be extremely specific, I can absolutely bury you with any comment you make. Care to make another sarcastic comment? Sorry if I offended you by stating the facts that Massey and AGCO are pretty well dead around here. As you can see, that's the general consensus and not just from me.

I'm not going to argue with you. Not because I don't like a good debate, it just won't help the original poster get his question answered.
It is all perspective, but if AGCO, CNH, Mahindra or any brand takes a component from someone else and puts it in a series of tractors, it makes good for everyone. The more common a part is the easier and cheaper it will be to replace.
The old Dynahoe/ Pettibone tractors come to mind. You didn't need a dealer to get parts for those. Or heavy trucks, you can walk into any branded dealer and get parts for your Eaton-Fuller, Cummins, Detroit or get it serviced.
Oh, and calm down, please. It wasn't meant to ba a personal attack. It just really makes me laugh when I see some of the stuff written on these boards. Didn't mean to poke the hornet nest.

Now that Yanmar is makeing the Cub Cadets tractors I wonder if China is building the new smaller John Deeres?? and there seems to be two types of John Deeres the ones with steel fenders and the ones with rounded plastic fenders, I would love to think John Deere was a all American product but it makes me madest to think that a American owned name hires out to China or somone else to build their stuff. at least a Kioti is all Korian and a Kabota is all Japaniese. I Still kinda want to own a new John Deere someday.

Did you know you can get a NH boomer 4055 which is 45hp with a loader for $27,500 for 0% for 5 years?

FYI -- I just bought a new 50hp 4wd Kubota with a FEL for $23,700. It is the MX5100. No bells and whistles but it is a sturdy tractor that gets the job done.
