Please see red comments.

Forgive me but I don't get the A-Z
I'm sure there is a joke in there but i'm slow witted.
You have to explain this to me in redneck terms
slowly please

I sent you a PM on this one.

Using bolts and tacking them with welds so they could not be turned/ but the flanges would be expensive and bulky. I think the same effect without flanges (cutting or scoring)and repairing the same way in the event of a hit will work inexpesively.

I was being somewhat facetious with the weld-neck flange suggestion; but it would look cool.

My corner lot on the 25 mph road (w/stop sign) ends in front of my house. There is an intersection on both sides of my property so speed is never an issue. A stop sign a few feet away and a left turn on to a one lane gravel road.We rarely have any traffic on the road do to my location. Mostly 3 neighbors on the private gravel road.

Geez, since we have so many distracted idiots driving, I guess we better ban bridge abutments, galvanized gates, and anything else that may injure the irresponsible, or put massive pillows or airbags on anything and everything a person may collide with while driving.

For those that read the comic strip Crankshaft, I'm sure the Keesterman character would love to have the OP's mailbox.

Really good point sir. My thoughts are to build mail boxes as heavy duty as we possibly can and that way drivers will want to pay enough attention so they will want to avoid hitting them. To the OP. great job on the box sir

Thank you very much
I think we need to remind people that driving is a "privilage" and NOT a "right" given to you.
Some folks need to loose their privilages
Mailboxes are considered Federal Property with laws to protect them and your contents inside.
There are very stiff penalties for the act of vandalism that "can" be given.
I have never heard of anyone being punished for mailbox vandalizm.

There are some caught occasional around here. Not all of them by any means. Like 'taggers' the punishments should be severe.

Maybe this has been addressed in this thread, but I have heard of mailboxes being thrown into windshields when hit by cars. With a heavy box on a break-a-way post, it would seem to me that it could flip up and go into someones windshield.

My mail box has gotten bashed in the past and I was thinking of enclosing it in a large ¼" pipe, but was told that if hit, it could go into someones windshield, causing injury or death.
So I ended up installing a new plastic one, and am now waiting for it to get bashed or shot. :smiley_aafz:

I see you only get a little mail. :)

One of my friends put their mailbox on a station wagon spring it worked great. It seems one his neighbors kept on running over his mailbox. Well his neighbor not being too smart had to try it one more time. The spring worked as he figured it would. The spring folded over as he hit it. Took out his oil pan exhaust and a few other essential parts. The car came to rest about 150 ft past the mailbox. No injury to the driver just the car.

As far as anyone being convicted of destroying a mail box. I know of one person that received 5 yrs for destroying a mailbox. He used as a weapon in an assault. He did have numerous other charges but I remember him crying about the 5 yrs the Feds hit him with for the mail box. That was about 20 years ago.

Rural mailbox owners can't win for losing. Have a stout mailbox and you may get sued if the car wraps around it. Have a breakaway mailbox and you may get sued if it flies through the windshield. Have a cheap mailbox and it gets squashed.
