I look at it this way. I will go and pay 12 bucks at a movie to suspend disbelief for 90 minutes. When the Lotto gets to giraffe money, I can pay a couple of bucks and have a couple of days of fantasy what-ifs.

Like going to my family reunion and setting up a table and then writing everyone a check to get them out of debt. (One time deal, no coming back for seconds)
And then setting up several full ride scholarships.
Oh, and paying all expenses for the local churches for the next 20 years.
Starting a bank(like in "It's a Wonderful Life") and making loans on a man's character and a handshake.
I do get my money's worth.

Like everyone else, I'll buy one ticket.

Sadly, the lottery really is just a poor mans tax. It went from 540 Million to 640 Million at 10AM this morning.

I just hope no one mortgages their house for tickets.

The odds of winning are 1 in 175,000,000 and the jackpot is 640,000,000 so actually this is a good bet!

There is a guaranteed way of winning the jackpot. Just bet all of the 175,000,000 numbers. So if you have an extra $175,000,000 you wanna invest to make $640,000,000 now is the time! :) The only problem would be if others also hit the jackpot. Then you may not get your $175,000,000 back. details..details

There is a couple of other problems...with your $175,000,000 buy of lottery tickets...#1 - You would use more tickets than there are available...#2 It would take you 28 yrs. to fill out all the lotto tickets to cover every possible number...I heard that on the news this AM...:)

Hmmmm, you just spent how much CASH (already taxed and clear) to win a chance at winning ONE amount equally divided between all the other people who spent a dollar to get a chance at it and people my sister who when and if they ever buy a lottery ticket buy two of the same so that IF their numbers ever win, they will make sure that they get MORE than one share. Not sure if any of that makes sense but to each his own.
As far as you guys that are "daydreaming" with how you will spend your piece of the big prize, consider what that big farm is going to cost you and make sure you save enough money to keep it going, with inflation also. Tractor maintance isn't cheap either, so don't forget to save some for that too!

Good points...a logistical challenge for sure

That "pay at the pump convenience" costs me an additional $.06 per gallon because I have to use my debit/credit card and the stores whine that they have to pay a fee even though they are the ones who inconvininced me in the first place giving precedence to lottery players over customers who were in line making larger and more expensive purchases. Sorry but it just hasn't been very convenient for me.

Yeah, I see this extra charge being passed on to the consumer all the time. As far as the company I work for, they negotiate their way out of those charges in advance. The little guy like you and I have to do the only other sensible thing (other than riding a bicycle) which is to shop around for a store that doesn't pass those costs on (directly). Luckily those costs are still being absorbed around here, rather than being passed directly to the pump user.
