What ever happen to the "warning" sticker at the bottom of each page??? I was going to copy and paste it here... Oh, well...

If someone is giving bad advice... "call him out" in that thread to back up what he says...

Asking for someone to NOT give wrong advice is like asking a psychiatric patient if they are nuts.

I have been reading posts here seems like near 20 years now and I can't recall anyone giving advice to shove your hand in a rototiller blade. Most if not all people are trying to help and are good hearted people.

People that give advice, from what I have read, speak of something they have tried or they have heard worked. Now is there bad advice in there, absolutely there is, did the person KNOW the advice was bad , absolutely NOT. They were just being helpful to the extent that they could.

If you only want perfect advice that is 100% guaranteed and useful, I suggest you pay for it from a professional.

My advice if you don't want bad advice along with good advice - Don't ask the question, or don't read anything on the wed, books, newspapers, emails, or listen to TV, radio, or any other form of communication, because this I will guarantee as 100% fact and you can take this to the bank.

They all give bad information.

I read the post you are referring to and I like the way you added your expertise to what I would consider a possible incomplete answer.

That is what we should do to a post that we have more experience with. The corrected person did not comment back which to me says that your advice was solid.

I'm guilty of giving bad advice from time to time. Maybe most of the time. I prefer to think of it as giving my opinion on the topic at hand and leave it up to the person doing whatever it is they are doing to decide if there's any value to what I've said. I've also been called out on topics that I was misinformed about and just plain wrong about. Some of the guys here are really good about it and I've always appreciated finding out that I wasn't doing it like I should have been. That's why I'm here, and why I'll continute to offer my opinions.

As for those giving advice that is intentionally wrong, there are those who have done so and bragged about it. A few years ago, a group of guys on here got all full of themselves about being moderated and not being able to say anything they wanted to. They went and started another forum without moderation. Say anything you wanted, it's all good. Of course, it wasn't a place that I found very appealing and only went there a few times. Some of the guys there would brag about starting rumors, making up things and intentionally contridicting others just for fun. I don't understand that sort of mentality, but know that it happend.

A lot of posts are from prior experiences without any issues that they "know" of. It seemed to work for them so why not? It may not always be the right or correct thing to do. I've always tried to give good advice, especially after I see dangerous or incorrect information passed along. There are areas of discussion on here that I don't respond to anymore. There's way too many "experts" saying "It worked for me, it will for them".

On the other hand, there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here giving good advice too. The only problem is, how do you tell the difference? If I ask a question and get 12 answers, not knowing the minority were actually correct, I'll probably follow the advice of the majority and do it wrong.

Let me clarify what I posted. I don't think most people post incorrect info on purpose. They just may not be up to speed on things.

IMO...the good far outweighs the bad (information here) exponentially...

if a topic/question is so critical (as to cause physical or legal harm) this is not the place to seek advice on such topics in the first place...

I wish that posters starting off with "well I never did such and such or have no experience with so and so" and then go publish a wiki would leave more room for those the have done these things or have experience with those things.

Then they might add (for example): "well I would think that using a 48" mower behind a 240hp tractor would be way too much for that tractor to handle".

For example, I've used an 18HP tractor in front of a 9' haybine and run it easily. Why? Because power is not the issue: weight and brakes and ground speed are. Can't run my baler either supposedly. Just how was I getting this stuff done then? Now I have more power and more weight and more speed, but how else do you get the data to the future choices or actions?

All the good advice comes from experience. The rest is twitter in my view.

And yes, you can run a tractor underwater, you can extend the reach of a ladder by placing it in a raised bucket, you can run a 50KW pto alternator with a 3 cyl 20 hp diesel lawn mower, you can weld cast iron, you can run a Western snow plow off the loader valve and outlets, you can change a tire with 2 large screwdrivers and some dish soap, you can pull a large trailer with a Corvette, and you can still live a long and happy life.

Some members think they are knowledgeable on all subjects and frequently give bad or dangerous advice.
