Nice tool!

Keep us posted on how well the hitch/ripper holds up.

All the best,

Peter
Thanks, I haven’t used it yet. I'm thinking by looking at it the shaft is pretty dang long. It's a 48 inch tube, and may bust the welds loose if I over do it. I may shorten it by about a foot first, to take some of the long leverage and stress off. That would be closer to 3 foot long.

I plan to plug in different tube lengths anyway for different attachments. If I decide to build my hoe using another 48 inch tube. I may have a thicker longer top strap welded to the top for more reinforcement, and also cut that one down to 3- 1/2 foot. Thats as deep as I need to dig around here anyway.

Ok got my welded receiver back today. Here is the start of my attachment collection. I’ve had this idea now for at least two years, and now just getting around to having the welding done. I think I have a few posts somewhere from last year, where I started trying these out. This is meant to help me around here not having a mini hoe. At least for now. The first as a ripper attachment for burying cable and making small trenches. The other is a hitch ,self explanatory I need this for maneuvering my 16 Foot 2400 lb trailer around the yard.

I had it welded and reinforced for extra strong hold. If I find I don’t pop any welds after using this with the extended shaft then in the end, I may try something crazy like welding on a cylinder and a small 8 inch bucket, which should help reduce the stress for starters using this 2- 1/2 x 2- 1/2 inch tubing. I may cut the shaft size down to around 3 1/2 foot I'll have to see how well it holds up.

If the stress / twist factors do not come into play then this will be my light duty mini hoe. I may even move up to a larger 12 inch bucket, if it works, and I find the for need one. I'll keep posting as I add to my little collection.:)

Barry, That receiver setup looks great. It looks plenty strong enough. If you decide to use it for a slide in mini hoe you might want go with a 3/8" wall boom/dipper arm where it would be 2" sq. tube

Barry, how are you coming along with your backhoe? I just finished my second backhoe. I made a few minor changes from my first one. I repositioned the curl cyl. and welded hose hoops on the attachment plate to keep the hoses from flopping around. Heres a few pictures.

P.S. Send me a PM if you need any info on the spec's of my backhoe- valve, dipper arm size, gusset plates, etc. I'd be happy to help if I can. The curl cyl. and buckets were purchased from a company in Canada.

I have used the 12 inch bucket (it come with an 8 inch) on the PT422 and really liked it. It has plenty of power and breakout force. How big is your big bucket and how well does the PT handle it.

Barry,
How are you coming along with your mini hoe project? Were you able to get prices on the buckets from the info. I E- mailed you?

Nothing earth shaking going on right now. I'm trying to make a few small attachments to help me dig out my new pond area.

I’ll be buying my bucket from Lacklender as originally planned. I’ll be getting their 8 bucket for starters with the smaller shaft size I need to keep it small. As always, seems I'm am juggling ten different things at the same time, and having trouble finding the time to work on my attachments.

I burned up my one 5/8 high speed drill bit Sunday working on an attachment idea, so I’ll need to go buy a few new ones this week. I do appreciate all of the info you sent me on valves ect. When I get ready to try making the mini, I’ll put it all to good use. Thanks again for all of your help.

I still haven't gotten all of my attachments really done yet, but I had to move on my pond. So here are a few shots of the work I am doing, with what I have at hand. As you can see this is what I have to dig through around here. I know some of you have the same shale / rock.

Seems I can't really dig by hand with out shoveling out pure rock, so thus the ripper to bust it up. Even though I still need to drill out and center my steel hoe/scrapper.. I'll call it. It really helped me pull the shale and dirt out of the hole so I didn't have to use a shovel.

I had a small pond, but after this winters frozen ice killing all my plants and almost my fish. I decided it needs to be much larger and a lot deeper. Also to keep the animals from scooping out and eating the fish. Anyway, I worked on it some today, and will take pictures as I go along.

Pictures in order, the shale I have to bust through and the ripper worked great for that, also for tearing out roots. The Hoe/Scrapper pulled the shale and dirt out of the hole and worked a little like a box blade, as in scraping the dirt out smooth, worked nice for either pulling the dirt/rocks or pushing them. I just bought some new drill bits, so I will be centering it on the hitch along with maybe even making it a little deeper before I am done with it.

Here are a few of the Hoe/Scrapper moving dirt around. When it is attached as you can see. It makes it easy to use for picking up the rock bucket and moving it around the yard.

Here's my traumatized fish that survived the winter deep ice attack. The pond area that I'm working on, and the out door lamp wire that will have to be buried in the ground via the ripper. And the original pond liner.

Nice job you did on those attachments barry. I like that scraper bar setup. Digging into that shale and rocky soil must be a real treat! We have mostly sandy soil and clay around here, so its not to bad to work with.
