I just put tar paper underneith the metal and used screws-( I would'nt use nails) to attach it, The way I cut it was tin snips, yes it was a pain, I pre-driled the holes and it went up slick./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I don't know if this is a real benefit but , I did use 5/8 plywood for my roof- my reasoning was that 1/2 flexes way too much and that is what kills a roof.

We live in wild fire country and when we built our house, we decided to build use brick with a metal roof. The roof was put on over particle board and tar paper. The metal is ribbed and uses screws to attach it to the particle board. The pitch is quite steep and it's very hard to get my footing when I go up to sweep the furnace and wood stove flues. This year, I'm trying something different. I bought some traction tape at Lowe's and hopefully it will allow me to get up as far as the flues without falling off. We've noticed that on hot days, the roof does expand and contract and you can hear a kind of booming noise when it does.

first post so dont no if it is gonna work right. no metal roof should leak it put up right. 5v metal like are on alot of pack
houses are nail or screw thru rib, standin seam you have
clips you hook to each panel and is seamed over that is nail down and covered with the next panel.will sound like rain when a cloud pass by you got to make sure you have enough venttalation or you will get condensation drips.
haint done no commercial metal just on the farm

You need a "chicken ladder" for footing on that roof. My dad built one for working up on our roof when I was a kid.

He took two L-brackets about 12" and attached them to a couple of 1" X 2" boards that were long enough to reach from ridge to eave. then he attached 18" pieces of 1X2 to those two pieces to form the ladder.

The L-brackets hooked over the ridge and the ladder layed on the roof providing him with an easy foot hold to walk up the roof to the top.

That is too kewl. I will definately be putting that one back for future reference.

I don't like roofs. I've been on them and I've done roofing. But I didn't and don't like it at all.

When "Moose" Johnston of the Dallas Cowboys had that crane drop through his house sometime back I was fortunate enough to be on top of the roof with three terrified mexicans unfolding and tying down a humoungus big old trucker's tarp. I just knew that either that storm, the lightning, the pitch, or one of the mexicans was gonna knock me off that puppy. It was a thrill but no fun. But we got it done.

Harv, it doesn't hurt bit to fall off of a roof. That sudden stop at the ground can be a b1tch, though. ;)
