I am new to the board and I have a favor to ask. I do not know much about tractors but I need one and ran across a used 1020 with about 400 hours on it. They are including a finishing mower and asking 5000 for the both. Is this a good deal? Thanks for your help.

New Member,
I have a MF 1040 for the past couple of years, and like it for my purposes. It is a geared machine, and I take care of 10 acres with it. The MF 1020 is the little brother to my machine. With 400 hours on it its hardly broken in. I bought my machine with 1340 hrs and have about 1400 hrs on it know. I run a 5ft rotary mower to cut about 8 acres and have a 6ft fel and 6ft rear grader blade. The tractor has treated me very well. I would have to say that if the tractor is being sold for that price it doesnt sound like a bad deal. I would get someone that you know that knows tractors and go take a look at it. I will try and include a link to the specs on your machine. Let us know how you make out. I payed $6000 for my machine about 2 years ago its a 1986, 32 hp diesel.

Like you, I am also new here. I have owned a 1020 Hydro for about 15 years now. Not sure of the year but I bought it new. Was a dealer demo with 30 or 40 hours on it as I recall. Now I have 1404 hrs.Has been an excelent tractor for my needs. I only have 7 acres and mowing is the main job as usual. My brother and Dad both have 1020s also. The only thing I would caution you about is the Hydro Pump/Motor. It is a Hydro, right? The older models did make more noise than new models do now I'm told. Mine is very noisy now after plowing a garden that was sod. This happened a few years back. I must have over crowded it and hurt something in the pump/motor. I posted my problem a few days ago asking for info as to where I can send it for rebuild but have not had any replies yet. I understand from reading other posts around here that Hinomoto built these tractors and is no longer in business. This concernes me as to availability of parts.
All in all I would not hesitate to buy another 1020. It sounds like the price is right. I wouldn't sell mine now for $5000.
Best of luck.

I have a 1020 with the Toyosha engine. I purchased it with 426 hours with FEL and boxblade. It has worked flawlessly for 2 years and 200 hours. If there were any complaints I could think of it would be it has a very low road speed. High range, 3rd gear is 8.5 miles per hour.

Good luck and welcome to TBN.
