I am in need of a medium-size utility tractor, found a Massey Ferguson 65 , gas engine Continental 176, 1958 or 59 model the tractor runs great, has like 4200 hours showing ..... If I buy this tractor, is it likely to say in the future I can find all necessary parts to do all mechanical repairs to keep this 65 running from now on, or are their mechanical parts that are unavailable? This is a good running tractor for 3300, I need it for tilling, and is about all I can afford... is it a decent choice? Or should I save my money until I can afford something larger and more modern?

My father has had a 65 for several years now, and repairs and maintenance have been as expected, with no major breakdowns. The biggest aggravation on these models is replacing a radiator belt, since you have to remove so much stuff. Anyway, they are quite reliable, and the continental is a good engine. We have found that any MF dealer can get the parts you may require; keeping in mind we haven't had any major problems.
As far as the cost.. I would save a couple thousand more dollars and buy a newer 165 or even a 135, and get a perkins diesel. Just a thought...

The 65 and the 165 are very reliable tractors and the parts for these models are readily available. About the only difference between these two models is the sheet metal. I find however that a vast majority of these tractors are diesels, therefore parts for the gas engine may be harder to get. As Southernman stated you may be better off to get a diesel.
