MF1754 smoking/DPF malfunctioning?

A sender out of range or malfunctioning, basically stuck would not throw a code! if it walks like a duck talks like a duck it is a duck. It sounds like a temp sensor to me or some sensor is malfunctioning. It worked correctly for a while ? The computer they plug in is not going to fix it. There is a LOT of times there is an issue and it will NEVER throw a code. Issue with the aftermarket troubleshooting is there is no genric software out there to read your engine that i know of, there is not enough out there for me to bother looking, or developing it for that matter.
So, you are at the mercy of your dealer. talk to them? about what you think, whisper sweet nothings in there ear, bring them flowers. Do, what you have to do to get them to fix it, because it sounds like your DPF is starting to plug up, and they will clean it and if they don't figure out the cause........ it is going to keep plugging up. I have seen this same story on truck MANY times!

Agreed, I also think a sensor is likely. The question is what's next for me because the dealer is pretty much out at this point. They are an hour away and it's quite expensive to get them to transport it to and from the shop. What I'm currently pondering is can the k39 (DO4CJ-T-CAC) engine be found in anything else besides the 1754, 1758, and 1759? I haven't found anything yet, I'm hoping I might find someone else somewhere that's dealt with this already.

On the newer engine when they go into cold mode the engine thermostat closes and they warm up real quick. You maybe going into cold mode but not coming out fast enough and the raw fuel is pluging the dpf. use a had held thermo and shoot the cooling system seeing how fast engine temp comes up. then when hot see thremostat open. it is possible a thermostat. I would like to think that was first thing dealer checked.... so i over looked it.

Interesting you the mentioned the thermostat, my tractor never gets over three bars on the temp gauge. Even in the summer when I'm brush hogging. I told the service manager about it and the last time they had it in the shop they ran it on the dyno and put it through a regen and it never got over two bars then. It's winter and cold I know but the temp gauge only going to two bars during a regen seems low.

OK, you need to find out what engine temp really is. thermostat sticking could be causing your issue as engine is staying in cold mode to long. plugging DPF and forcing you to regen more often. Also if engine is not coming up to temp it may not regen on it's own. so nasty circle.

So I talked to the service manager and mentioned the thermostat as a possibility. He said that it makes sense and they hadn't tested it, and certainly hadn't considered it. So now I'm waiting to hear back from him with the specs on opening and operating temps.

:banghead: Amazing. they ran that on a dino and didn't check that while it was running. It would be easy if you could read ECM data. Start asking dealer dumb questions? I shall explain there is a box that goes between the PC and the ecm. I call it an interface. If translates the ecm data to something the PC can see. Auto and trucks are on standard data, so you can find readers. there are generic software and cost effective interface boxes. Be nice to know what language they are using. For example CAT yellow has there own special language. Deutz using K line, when you get out of the auto and truck side of things everything get proprietary. For example I can read some New Holland. John Deere there is a tuff nut to crack....
Even if they give you the specs you will need an accurate way to read coolant temp?

They didn't, even though they noticed the engine temp never got over two bars.

MF1700s don't use a standerd OBD2 port, mine has a round connector with several round pins and uses AGCO's EDT system.

Mine is the 1742 and the most bars I've seen is maybe 4 but mostly 3 for coolant temp. Let me say, i WORK this tractor fir everything its got. Even when brush hogging hard with a 6ft in the hot summers. Looks like we are both in the same boat!! Same issues and still no fixes. Ever since my dealer regen, I do smell the exhaust more and it may just be me, but seems a little down on power.
