Sorry for the absence, I have been out of town. But before I left I used some heavy card stock in front of the of the radiator to block air flow but never got a chance to run it. Having finally gotten back into town and a day off of work I was able to get the tractor out and see what would happen. And what happened was I was finally able to get the engine up to full operating temp (4 bars), also the smoking and smell from the exhaust went away. I think this adds to the certainty of the thermostat being faulty.

Manual regeneration procedure

Crank engine and warm until 3 bars appear on the temperature gauge. Set parking brake. Press and hold smoke button for 10 seconds or longer. Tractor will take care of itself.

ENGINE OIL DIPSTICK NOTICE

There are 3 levels on the dipstick. The lowest is the add mark. The one further up is the full mark. The notch out the side above the full mark means change your oil.

Sometimes, in manual regen the cylinders receive excessive amounts of fuel. Fuel may leak past the piston rings and dilute your engine oil, thus raising you engine oil level.

Update: my 1742 has acted up 3 times (been to dealer every time) and now to the total of being away from me for a month. Luckily dealer gave me a loaner, boomer 47. Man those hydraulics are slowwww!!! Throughout this process, I've sent massey a couple angry emails and because of that, they are involved in the diag. This time they've had it for 2 weeks and massey suggested a sensor which is part of a harness. Apparently it's a $1000 part and thankfully under warranty. I don't know if this will fix it... I hope so. So aggravated because I turn the key to use it and just about 10 hours after getting it back, limp mode without warning. I hate playing Russian roulette especially when we have 11 horses and it still snowing a lot....

So this boomer, I've had it now for 20 hours and I sh** you not, did a regen 4 times!!! I've been running it pretty much around 2300-2500. Just for haha's, I asked the dealer what a trade in on my massey would be. Just rolled 310 hours, not even 2 years old, paid around 29k, they offered me mid 14k.... What the heck!! When I bought the tractor, they told me it will hold its value for a while. Lies!

So needless to say I'm in a love hate relationship with massey. Tractor is so comfortable and love all the features but hate this regen and all the bs that is happening right now. I'll keep ya posted

Wow, I'm just in the process of buying a 1736...hoping to pick it up tomorrow. Now I'm having second thoughts. Maybe I should pay a bit more and get a 2538 HST Mahindra instead...no DPF filter, but I've heard Mahindra kind of makes up for it with other issues.

Crap! I thought trading my old 1972 issue IHC 454 for a brand new tractor was supposed to eliminate aggravation!

Well, I'm coming up to week 9 still without mine. I absolutely love the tractor otherwise..... My dealer has been amazing to me by giving me a free loaner when massey won't step up. Its now in massey' s repair hands and I still don't feel good about their diagnosis. They are replacing the turbo only problem is that it's on intergalactic back order from japan.... I heard that in the next couple months, massey is releasing premium models like your 36 and my 42 that don't have the dpf. What the crap, I want a new non dpf model ******!!!! Hope this doesn't scare you. I just seem to have bad luck with stuff

I'm going to ask my dealer about the new non-DPF models. I haven't forked over any cash yet.

I've had my fair share of issues with my MF1754 HST cab over the last year and a half. You can see my threads if interested. I too have a love/hate relationship with Massey tractors. When this tractor is working, it is great and I'm thrilled with it. When it craps out, well!!! Have had three Massey compact tractors, last two with issues. I was hoping the 2nd one was a fluke. OK, not!

According to my dealer, the new Massey Ms are supposed to hit the dealer lots in July or August of this year. He is ordering and acquiring all the current 1700 series tractors he can get. Says he doesn't want to take a chance on new Ms as the first year of manufacture tends to have issues. Also, told me a price increase is coming! Just some food for thought.

Well, I decided to go ahead with the 1736. I've been researching CUTs for months now and find that ALL brands have issues. I decided to go with the dealer 4 miles from my place. I've gotten good service from them, and he beat Mahindra's price for tractor, loader, backhoe, filled rears, and block heater. I hope I don't end up regretting my decision, but I've grown weary of the search.

Congratulations on your decision and purchase. My dealer mainly sells 1736s. He told me that he has had very few, if any, issues with 1736s. They have a 1736 shop tractor with well over 2,000 hours on it and zero issues. I believe you have a really good chance of getting a great tractor. From what I seen and read, issues seem to be more apt to show up in 1754/1758 HST tractors. It is not all 1754/1758 HST tractors, but a few.

I understand getting tired of the research. I've been there, also. Enjoy your new tractor. I'll bet it serves you well for many years.

As a point, maybe I'm a gluten for punishment, I almost bought a 1758 HST a week ago. The devil you know versus the devil you don't. My Dealer couldn't swing the transfer with another dealer.

Good luck with your new tractor.
