After reading your post, last Saturday I took two extinguishers out to the farm and placed on into each barn. I know, they aren't on the equipment, but we need a started point. Will eventually buy some for the tractors.

When you buy any extinguishers be certain to not buy any with plastic handles.
The plastic handles can become brittle, and crack/break when you really need them.

That is a very good suggestion AND point you made!! I never even gave that a thought before. Especially if they are mounted on the tractor outside in the weather!

High quality 5# abc metal handle fire extinguisher, heavy metal vehicle mount (sold separately) required for the operating environment and square U-bolts cost about $100 from Amazon. After a year holding up well on both tractors. Cheap insurance. One tool I hope I never have to use.

Nice neat installation.
That metal valve/handle type is the ONLY extinguisher to get!
Don't get the cheap big box store plastic handle extinguishers for your house either.

Same here, just empty the bucket on a regular basis, go down to the water and bury them at sea. No poison needed, just peanut butter.

This works for me. My wife calls it the “Trap of Doom”. When I first started it I caught 6-7 a night. Now it’s less than 1 a week maybe even a month in my shop. I dumped a splash of windshield washer fluid to keep it from freezing since I don’t heat the shop unless I’m out there.

I was talking to a friend yesterday who refills and certifies fire extinguisher. The plastic handled ones have been recalled. He said to call the manufacturer for a replacement. He was unclear if this applied to all extinguishers or if the program was still in effect.

Kidde has recalled multiple versions of their equipment. They will replace it with an updated model, which I had to do for several of mine.
