Maybe one of our TBN computer experts can answer this question for me. Why am I getting all these symbols on my page while I am typing an email. It just started and I didn't make any changes that I know of.

There is a paragraph symbol at the start of each paragraph and a dot everywhere I make a space. These do not show up in the email I send but only while I am typing them.

Show/Hide your symbols. It is a button usually to the left of the %view in your toolbar.

Thanks MossRoad,

It was so easy once I found the standard toolbar. I had to go to VIEW, TOOLBARS, STANDARD, and click on the toolbar for it to appear so I could make the change.

Since I did not even have the toolbar on my page, I could not have changed it in the first place. I wonder how it got changed to SHOW YOUR SYMBOLS.

I'll tell you what happened.... you stepped in some microsoft and now you need a stick to clean it off your shoe! :p:D:)

HA! It was probably just keystrokes. I know, sounds goofy. But all it takes is a finger on the CRTL key instead of the shift key, tap a few keys and that's all she wrote! :)

Also, sometimes you can open a document with macros in it that will do weird stuff that will affect everything you do after that until you correct it.

Not an expert but agree with Moss Road on the keystroke combo or document that someone sent you. I also think once in a great while an update can affect a setting but have not seen one do what you described.

and then again.. it's microsoft.. and sometimes the stuff just don't work.. look at vista? possibly the shortest lived OS since milenium... another great MS product... :)

Something similar happened to me twice in the past few months, and I'm sure it was a shift-control something with fumble-finger me :). It resulted in everything I typed coming out in Cyrillic (?) font - it all looked like I was typing in Russian, and I had no idea how to turn ot off. Luckily, I powered the computer off and retarted and it was back to normal.

Scan your system for spyware and viruses! We block ALL e-mail with the Cyrillic character sets. PERIOD! The Russians have a really huge, organized hacking effort going on. Even though your machine may look fine, it could be sending data back to the bad guys without your knowledge.

Look at the image below. This is my HOURLY mail statistics for the last 24 hours. Those are thousands per hour stats. The pink is all spam! 60K per day average. Man, if these losers would focus their energy on curing cancer.... but there's no profit in doing good! :(

Thanks for the tip, Moss, I do scan and check periodically but likely not nearly enough. I use AVAST all the time, and Spybot occasionally. Wow, your email sure gets a TON of bad stuff! Makes me wonder what happens in the background that we never see. But the times I have seen those characters, I distinctly do remember hitting multiple keys just before they appeared. I am using Firefox and Thunderbird. Anyway, will check and run those again this morning!
