Midwest ICE STORM?!?!

Woke up to 1/4" of ice. No broken trees. Raining now so it'll be gone in a few hours. NW Missouri.

We had a little frozen drizzle Saturday morning & some ice with rain this morning in north central MO, but no real damage!

We have about 0.25" of ice and will get little more. It looks like there is very small potential for damage. Based in doppler radar it should stop raining in about an hour. Had to throw some hot water on our SAT dish to get rid of ice and make internet work again.

As usual, the media hyped this out way beyond what it was. At least in Kansas City anyway.

You are lucky if you didn't get it,media hype or not.We went thru one, very serious.Main transmission lines ,huge metal towers came down.We had people without power for six weeks. We were lucky, lost some trees and a few local power lines and telephone but only were without for about four days.Ran four house with a little 2500 watt generator. Now the whole family has their own generators.

We had a bad one in 2002. Power was out for 2 days. I live rural now and have a big enough generator to run the frig and furnace. Last time power went out it was back on about 15 minutes after I got the generator hooked up.

We are out of power and the new Generator has been running for over 10 hours. Got a lot more frezing rain last night so the ice got thicker. The power has been out for over 10 hours now. New generator is working great, the ice is just starting to melt, but there is about as many limbs on the ground as there is up in the trees.

We're about 30 miles east of St. Louis, and had about 1/4" on Friday, but it was mostly melted by Saturday afternoon. Still some on trees and grass yesterday, but pretty much all gone this morning.

West central Illinois, we had a glaze Saturday morning but it was gone by noon, the roads never got real bad and no ice build up so no power outages. Guess we got lucky.

KDOT and MODOT did a fantastic job of pretreating around Kansas City. It certainly helped a lot.

I'm headed into Oklahoma this afternoon on a duck hunting trip really hoping it don't get too bad...

Leaving east central Georgia about 4pm this afternoon headed into the Nowata Oologa area with any luck we should arrive around 5-6am.

How was the trip?

Get any ducks?

No its terrible so far no ducks to be seen if anybody has a line on any opportunities please let me know.

Well, the ponds around here in Eastern Kansas are covered with ducks and geese. Mostly geese though. Nasty things.

We are looking into going to Kansas as an option we have a week planned and so far haven't been on a single hunt just scouting. If you know anybody willing to let us hunt PM me please.

Over the past 30 years there's been a lot of housing developments and small acreages (1-5 acres) built on. They all wanted to complete the move to the "country" with large ponds and/or small lakes built into the development. And of course they wanted geese!!!! Now they hate em. Tearing up golf courses. Eating flower beds and leaving the "evidence" in the well manicured lawns. Seems the Honey Moon is over. :)

Ok...we got snow last week. Then on Sunday night we got rain. Temps are holding in the low-mid 30's range during the day and dropping into the 20's at night. With that background, you can probably guess what my gravel driveway looks like (and probably will until May). The town plows it for us but they keep the plow up an inch or so and there is also a bit of a crown in the driveway. I hate the thought of pouring salt on it so was thinking about a small tow-behind disc to cut some grooves into the sheet. With our daytime temps the sheet will go "rotten" pretty quick if I can cut some ribbons in it. Anybody have any thoughts?

/ Midwest ICE STORM?!?! #39
I suspect that your estimate of May is probably fairly accurate if you don't salt it. Your grooves will fill with water during the day and freeze solid overnight so the next day you'll be right back where you started.

Don't salt a gravel driveway.
