Midwest Storm

As I predicted earlier, our house construction has had a significant impact on the weather. Mixers stuck in the mud, then the snow and now that the concrete is poured and curing we get sub-zero temperatures. Of course, all the snow is insulating the ground, keeping that mud nice and sloppy /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

We've had a bit over a foot in this recent storm. I was by the property tonight and eased my truck into the drive then backed up to check my tracks. Sure enough, the right front had dropped into a rut that was full of water and mud under the snow. I didn't even try to drive in.

Supposed to be 50 by Friday though. Maybe it'll all melt off and dry out by next week /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Then again, we're supposed to start framing... that should produce torrential rains /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I live south of Moss Road in Northern Indiana (approximately 25 miles west of Fort Wayne) and we didn't get any snow that amounted to anything this past weekend. We did get about 4 or 5 inches earlier last week, but most of its gone now. Had temperatures of minus 5 F. this morning with a brisk wind, BRRR /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Hey, at least the rain will stop once you get the roof on /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Hang in there!

I have a block heater rancar so it started just fine. When I first bought it it didn't have a block heater and it still started fine. You could tell though that it was cold. With the heater the starts are immediate and crisp. Also don't have to wait so long for them to get up to operating temps. If you try and use the hydraulics too soon it is slow. You have to wait for things to warmup even with the block heater though. I usually start it and then go do chores. When I get back it's nice and toasty and ready for some work.

Richard,
We only got about 3 inches of snow here. Early Monday morning it was -4 and later that day the daytime high was 42. Strange weather.

Hi Grant,
Nice to hear you didn't get much. It's been miserable here. Starting melting some today. Now it's going to be a muddy mess again. Argh. Can't win. haha.

Got 13" in Midland MI from late Friday evening through mid-evening on Sunday. Steadiest snow I've ever seen ... just snowed and snowed and snowed. And WET, man was it wet ... plugged up the 10hp snowblower when I was doing the walks ... and even stopped the L3710 dead in it's tracks when I got a little bit too much of that wet stuff in front of the bucket.
Then it got pretty doggone cold (for here) and made the snow even worse ... although the ground was still boggy if you went through the snow (had to take the Kubby out to pull out my ATV and manuare cart when I bogged down in the back pasture ...)
And ... as Richard said ... it's snowing again ... expecting 2 inches tonight and then ... in a day or sao ... 50 degrees and rain.
Have I mentioned this winter SUCKS?? Snow would be ok ... frozen ground would be ok ... or spring would be ok ... but this incessant freeze, snow, melt cycl is hard on the ground, plants and especially the horses ...

Wingnut,

I'm about 60 miles West of you. Thought I'd send along a couple of pics. Power's been off here off and on for 2 days. Seems the snow bent all the trees over and as it melts off, the branches keep slapping the power lines and screwing things up.

Saturday looks like we'd better brace for it. Last weather report showed us 53 degrees and 1 1/2 inches of rain. Put that on the snow from last weekend and it's a good thing most of the ground is thawed for there'd be some flooding.

Down here in North Georgia we dropped to 14 degrees Monday morning----I know----ya’ll up North are saying, I wish it was 14 degrees./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Well that is cold for us. We even saw a snow flake---or maybe it was two. Up to 60 today and they say we will see 70 on Friday. Many of our trees and shrubs have been budding, I don’t know what this cold snap will do to the spring plants. I think Mother Nature is messing with us this winter./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
