Mig or stick?

Luckily the OP's question was answered in the 2nd post before things got a bit wacky.

The only 殿rgument I (we?) have Dave, is in hanging 都tick over every newby痴 head. I suspect the reason you致e bowed out, is you壇 like to continue to do so. The OP asked the constant, on-going question which is MIG or stick. In 5 pages how many definitive answers are there?

Try not to decide what you think I'll do. This is why you come off as argumentative to me.

In my humble opinion, Definitive argument to mig vs stick always boils down to "what does a person want and what does a person want to do"

Here is what I wrote a few back:
"Again, I only claim that mig, stick or tig is the best for someone based on what they want to do with it.
One size does not fit all in my opinion."

And I also provided a detailed write up of my thoughts on flux core.

Obviously I'm not hanging anything on anyone.

Kindly please stop trying to bait me. I won't provide any entertaining sport or any interesting comments outside of welding.

Yikes! This thread got long faaaaast.
If you didn’t read my first post: My original question was not mig vs stick in general, it was whether the weld from a 6010 electrode would be able to withstand the shocks of the pilot post pounder better as it has a the tensile strength of 60,000 psi vs the 70,000 psi of the mig wire, hence possibly making the mig wire more brittle.
But nevertheless, their is a lot of valuable information in this thread:)

This is no doubt, bait ? Addressing the welding issues raised would be more convincing.

Tractorguy the 60k is more ductile than the 70k but neither would flex in the slightest. Ther is no opportunity for the 6010 to exhibit its ductility. Consequently it would make zero difference.

From what I understand 7018 might be the best choice but my understanding is pretty limited. In the end if the welds are good it's probably cake.

I've never met Minnesota Dave. But I've known him for years on welding forums. His knowledge of welding, just impresses the he!! out of me!:thumbsup:

You are very welcome Dave. But remember I'm just a hobby welder! ;)

I'll reach that level one day - maybe after I retire in about 17+ more years ;)
For now I'll have to stay a moderately skilled part time semi-pro

In other words, I still have a lot to learn.

MinnesotaDaveChalmers and Shield Arc

Dave, you and Carl are the folks that one can always look to for reasonable and reasoned posts about welding questions.
You both have a great deal on knowledge and are always willing to share it, and we the "normal" folks appreciate it both here and on WW. You take the high road and try to avoid folks that are nothing but web provocateurs.
Thank you
