Milled Asphalt??

I put it on my driveway. Love it. All I had to do was ask when they were milling the road in front of the house, they dumped 4 or 5 loads in the driveway. I spread it with my FEL. Having it rolled would have been even better. Around here it's considered impervious surface. even a gravel lot is considered impervious.

I like it as a base, especially if it can be had for cheap, or even better -free! The quality [size] of the millings effects its utility. The finer milled reforms and bonds much like hot process material. Get it and work it while its fresh, if you can. Some townships require that it be covered with crushed stone, which results in a very serviceable, and still economical wear surface.

Live in NH, have a 3/4 mile long driveway that goes up 800'. The driveway guy used this on his hilltop and recommended it to us because of cost (cheaper) and it doesn't wash out.

My question, I am also looking for a tractor. If I get a tractor are R1s going to tear it up or should I go with R4s. I was thinking R1s because I want to do land clearing and everything I own is sloped.

Our city puts down 4-6" on the hills of our dirt road as it prevents washouts. It was roller compacted and has set up just as nice as a paved road.
Did my drive with that 18 yrs ago and it is still great (about 4-5"), we compacted using the last truckload with bald tires and parallel runs.
Yes you want as many hot sunny days to have it bond.

Slaken

Once the regrind is compacted and has set in the sun for awhile I don't think R1s will tear it up. I spent a good part of a morning trying to tear it up with a ripper so I could lay a new irrigation line across the driveway. Of course a lot of that is my tractor is on the small side. Bottom line, once it sets it is pretty tough.

I run ice chains on my tractor and never have they damaged my re-cycled asphalt surface.
The dual cross ice chains are mounted on turf tires.

If a little diesel is sprayed on it, it melts some of the asphaltic cement. It makes it key together very well. Not great for the environment. Just telling you what I have seen personally.

I would squeege on some asphalt emulsion driveway sealer once I had the surface as I wanted it. Diesel thins the asphalt cement in the grindings and converts it into cold patch that stays live and won't set up. Once cured the driveway sealer will not track around or run off into the environment.
