Miller 211

Hey Guys, I am also thinking about buying the 211. It looks like the best deal around on a quality machine. Best price I have found so far is $1,135.00 from one of the internet welding vendors with free shipping. Being that this will be my first mig, i was wondering what people are getting when using the $400.00 of stuff on the rebate. Here is what I was thinking. Would like to know what the folks with mig welding knowledge would buy.
40 cf tank, $120.00, cart $168.00, 035 wire $28.00, 030 wire x2 $64.00, 030 tips $12.00, 035 tips $12.00, Total $404.00. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Maurice

Get a bigger tank. 80cf tanks are easy to handle.

I can't remember my rebate deal exactly but I got the spool gun for eventually aluminum welding. Haven't used it yet but figured if I had it I would be more likely to play with it than to have to buy later and feel the pain. I agree on getting a bigger tank. I went with 80cf and it fits well on the Harbor Freight cart with drawers. Nice thing is that the gauges stick up higher than the 211 sitting on the cart so it makes easy to see and read. Do you already have a helmet? I first tried the cheap HF and it wasn't working right. Returned it and got the low end Miller auto darkening and it does me great.

I have the better HF helmet, and two cheap ones. Never tried one of the $100+ ones, so I don't what I'm missing.

I wanted to get that HF MIG cart with the drawers when there was a coupon for $109. But they were always sold out. Gave up after a while.

I did get the the five drawer tool cart. Liked it so much, I got a second one. And I added the $20 fold down shelf to one of them.

The spool gun also comes free with a mail in certificate after the purchase. The 2 rebates are a straight $200.00 off or $400.00 rebate on $400.00 worth of Miller or Hobart accessories purchased at the same time. It looks like I should consider going to a 80cf tank. Hope to hear from others as to what they would buy as well.

Spool gun is a good idea. A lot easier when it's rolled into purchase price rather than buying it by itself later on.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can best spend the $400.00 rebate on accessories and or consumables? I would like to spend the money wisely, but I don't have any mig welding knowledge at this point.

Thanks, Maurice

mgarofoli I just received my Millermatic 211 last week. Remember the tank does not go towards the $400 rebate. I did get the 80CF tank for myself. The rebate is only for items Miller or Hobart branded. Remember the spoolgun offer ends July 31.
Here is what I got (considering I had no previous welding equipment) I opted for a Protection Pak called the performance package: includes a Performance helmet, INDURA welding jacket, MIG gloves, Metalworker gloves, safety glasses, and a job site bag to store everything in. I also got a Miller consumable kit (10 extra tips, nozzle and a contact tip adapter) figure I'll ruin a few tip learning. A protective cover for the 211, cheater lens for my helmet, and finally a miller welding cap to push me over the $400 target.
Today I ran down to HD to get my parts to wire in a 230 volt outlet to get me going.
Still up in the air choosing a welding cart.

PS On the rebate slip I noticed that you can E-mail your rebate slip, and receipts to Miller. I scanned all three into my desktop and E-mailed them. I asked the recipient if I had included all the necessary documentation, and two days later received a response from Miller that everything looked good. Rebate approx. 2-4 weeks, "Spoolgun maybe longer as there are backorders at some warehouses".

smalltown,

Thanks for that info. It had just dawned on me that the tank was not Miller/Hobart. I have helmet, gloves etc. as I do have a stick welder. I will look into the consumable kit as well. I would assume that you match the kit to the gun.

Yes I ordered the 234608 kit which is .030 tips for the M-100 gun that is included with the Millermatic 211. The Cyberweld site indicates they also fit the M-10 and M-15 guns.

I will chime in again... and a still a newbie but will say... get a decent auto darkening helmet. The pro's (Shield Arc and the ilk...oh and he is a master) don't need that but I love not having to flick the helmet down and wonder if you have wandered. The more expensive helmets have a larger viewing area but not sure why one needs a larger field of view... I am looking at aa pretty small area when I weld (again... maybe I don't know what I am talking about). Consumable tips, etc. you can get more as needed but the spool gun is something that you probably won't buy unless you have to (but when is that?). Get a cover for your your unit... keep it clean (this is the last welding machine I hope to buy). Didn't think tanks fell under the deal... so... Gloves? I think you ought to try them out... do a fit check. I like 'clothes' that fit... gloves included. Do this at a local welding supply if you can. I am picky here.

Any notice a few days ago (or that is when I saw it) that the 211 now has a smaller size, and is about 40 pounds total weight now. I wonder how it is going to compare to the other one they had.
I about pulled the trigger when they had the free spool gun with it, but kind of had an idea in the back of my head that something was up, and it was, a new model. :)

I got mine last week. Weighed 91 lbs. According to the sticker on the box.setting it up now, and hope to try it out this weekend.

I think you got the older model that they were giving the free spool gun away with. The new one looks to be about half as high, with a cage, or handles on each end of it. I really liked the size, and looks of the one you got, it looks like my Diversion 165 Tig welder.

Here's the new 211. Millermatic® 211

Anybody got updates on their new 211? I'm looking at one and would like to hear.
Thanks

I have 211 bought it when miller first introduced it, its a solid machine but IMO it is not very good at welding aluminum, not sure what it is but seems much smoother on other machines like the miller 252 or Lincoln 256

I'm new to welding and used a 211 (older model) in a class I took. I read a lot of reviews online between the new vs the old model and also read a lot on Hobart and Lincold. I thought I wanted to find an older model of the 211 but after reading a little more on both machines I decided to purchssed the newer 211 today. I found what I believe was the best deal ftom cyberweld dot com and walked into my local Airgas and showed them and they matched the price including what I would have saved on sales tax plus they threw a #80 tank...... I just had to pay for the fill but the tank will be mine. I will get a $400 rebate and a free Miller helmet.
